Not a mod on the trailer, but on the tow vehicle...

Well, my 98 K2500 is not exactly what I would call flush for space in mounting stuff to the dash. I really don't like things hanging off the dash or stuck on haphazardly.

I needed a spot for my rear camera, so I made myself a lower console to mount it in.

In the beginning:

Now that i had the basic shape, time for fiberglass and body fill:

Added a spot for engine gauges, my ipod and a cubby for storage:

Con't

Screen bezel added, gauge panel added and refining the shape:

Added a 5v power supply, inverter and plug in's and all into primer:

And finally, painted and in the truck and ready for use:

Next, mount the rear camera:

Can't see it? Let's get a little closer:

I made a mounting bracket, welded that to the bumper and then shaved the plastic lip so the camera just pokes out. The tailgate clears the camera by about 1/4 inch when open. The camera is color in the day and switches to black and white in night vision mode.

A little bit of wiring to get it all fired up and rear vision won't be a problem when backing up. Hooking up the trailer will now be a one man job!

As a bonus, I was able to make storage for my Ipod (it's controlled by the dash radio), have a place to mount a bevy of extra gauges, a 5v power supply and a 110 power supply in the cab.

It all turned out pretty good I think.

I like it!

It's not too hard gents, just time consuming. I've probably got somewhere around 60 hrs and 100 bucks into the whole project.
