Old Style TV update to Flat Screen

I have a 2006 Puma 28BHS and want to update the old analog TV over the Dinette to a small flat-screen. It has a shelf for the existing TV and in newer model years it appears that shelf is not there and the TV mounts on the wall between the Dinette and the Bunks. I haven't checked it out thoroughly but I believe installing a lockable tilt and swivel mount so unit can be stowed in the existing compartment is the best thing to do. Essentially attaching the unit to the existing cupboard which can allow for laminating 5/8" plywood to the cupboard to beef it up as I am sure it would be MDF. The existing shelf can then support from below as well.

Any advice?

Can you use machine screws with washers on the cab side?

Could but I just get nervous when it comes to attaching something like a TV to what is probably very cheap MDF.

Small flatscreens don't weigh much, keep the mount short and the load less. Others on this forum have mounted to cab sidess and bottoms. Search above in the subject box and see if you can locate the threads. The waters were crossed before and came out well.
