One happy wife

My wife was never happy with the drawers in our 2007 Rockwood 8315 SS. They were very short. Only 11 1/2 inches inside dimension. In addition there was a foldout top compartment that was sort of useless.

I pulled out the drawers to do some investigation and could not believe the wasted space behind the drawers. I bought new guides and made new boxes and attached the old fronts. I even replaced the top foldout top compartment with a drawer.

Because our kitchen faces the front sloped section of the trailer we ended up with four different lengths of drawers. Two 22 inch, a 20 and and 18. This almost doubled the available space.

By the way, you would not believe the number of staples in the factory drawers. Those assembly people must get paid for each pull of the trigger.

Very nice work. Unfortunately, my fold out compartment is in front of the kitchen sink and there is no way that I could put a drawer in that slot.

Still, great idea!

Don,
Great mod and thanks for posting!

Looks like I'm going to have more work to do!

Any chance you can post some pics of the new drawer boxes you built? (Norm Abram I'm not!)

John

Hello Don Vest!
On Man!... I am soooo jealous... your wife is soooo lucky to have a handy hubby. We want to do the same thing to our Graywolf 19RR... but I am going to have to hire someone to do it for me. Hope she enjoys her new drawers

Great idea and very nice looking job Don. I have a couple of those short drawers as well so I now have a solution!
