Outdoor Shower & Low Point Drain

Ok, Talk to me about how these Low Point Drains work. My Puma 23fb has them and I really would love an outdoor shower on our trailer. I've got an idea of modifying some faucets to them or valves to connect a coil hose to for rinsing feet, cleaning pots and pans from the BBQ pit etc so I don't have to walk around trailer and do it by campsite water supply. My question is are these drains even pressurized? I don't understand how there would be water pressure if they are just drains. Or is it more complex? Do they get the pressure from the shore water and since the valves would be open while in use, would allow the pressurized shore water out the hose I add?

when you turn off the water to the trailer there is still water in the hoses and pipes. The fill point/ city water connection is not the lowest point so when winter comes or you sanitize your system and then need to drain out all the water you need to open the lowest point - that's what this is, the lowest point of any hose/pipe so that you can drain out all the water in the entire trailer.

Ok, I understand that part, but how does work when people say you can use them for an outdoor shower. I'm guessing its like you said that when I have shore water on, the pressure goes out somewhere, and that would be the low point drains if they are open right?

Ruben,

It's relativly easy to cut into your water supply and add an outside shower. You can purchase the kit on-line, and just install it on the outside, wherever you have H & C water running nearby inside. You can purchase "aligator tooth" fittings for the PEX pipe or youu can purchase a crimper and crimps. Some tool rental outlets will rent you a crimper, saving your costs even more. PEX pipe and fittings are available at Home Depot and Lowes, so don't have to pay RV prices for them.

Ya I may just do that. I had originally thought to actually cut the side of TT and add it right but I'm so scared to do it LOL. TT is just a month old. I'm guessing that since our Bathroom area is in the Back of Trailer I can probably find a way to tie it in there or I may just go where the sink is.

We have the outdoor shower option on our TT... Looks like they just tapped into the low point drain lines. As my shower is mounted on the side towards the rear of the camper, and below that coming out the bottom are the hot and cold drain lines. Drain lines are just a red and blue hoses with caps on the end. Guess valves would have blown the budget.

I have had my trailer for a few months and I just noticed I have a cold and hot (red and blue with seal plugs not valves) water connections under my trailer which I assume are for a shower connection??? I have an enclosed underbelly and they pipes sit b/w the skirt and underbelly. I didn't order the outdoor shower but it came plumbed for it. If may want ti check and see if you already have connections

And on a side note, I can only find one drain underneath and that is for my fresh water tank. Do some trailer not have them?

Hmm, maybe thats what mine are. They are the same colors as yours and are b/w skirt and underbelly. Thats what sucks about having trailer in storage, i wont be able to check until we go camping this weekend.

Leencharlotte,

You stated in post #8, "I have a cold and hot (red and blue with seal plugs not valves) water connections under my trailer which I assume are for a shower connection???"

Bad assumption. These are your low point drains. Yes they have pressure when the trailer has pressure, that is why they are capped. The other drain you have found is for the fresh water tank. Outside showers should be mounted in the wall, and plumbed inside. Otherwise, if you camp in freezing temps, all that exposed plumbing may freeze. I just put one in a Wildwood for someone. Make sure you find the studs, and don't cut through one when picking a location. Once you cut a hole in the side of the camper, you are pretty much committed.
