Outside Kitchen Radio

Anybody out there add a radio to the outside kitchen and wire the outside speakers to it? I'm thinking of doing this so when the kids have friends with them they can watch movies in the main part of the camper and in the bunks and the wife and I can still listen to music outside. I have looked up the parts but just curious if anyone has done this?

The first thing I thought of was a portable radio/stereo/speakers as well. If you have a cell phone that will connect to Bluetooth speakers that would be the simplest option. Bose is nice but a little pricey. I'm sure you could find something quite a bit less expensive.

A portable unit as mentioned before would work but that's just another item that has to be stored away.

My reason for wanting to do this is so it permanent and since the camper has outdoor speakers why not separate them from the inside and add the radio to drive them. That's all.

I've seen so cool mods people have done over the years to their campers but never seen this. You would think the manufacturers would get some feedback from people and just do it from the factory. That would save people from having to go inside to change the station or volume level. Especially campers with outside kitchens.

Just makes sense my opinion.

IIRC the TV sound doesn't go through the stereo so if that's true you should be able to play the radio strictly through the outside speakers while the kids are watching TV inside.

No my TV, when using the DVD player, goes through the speakers.

If you're using your Concertone, iRV or Jensen factory unit for the DVD player it would be easier and better to buy a separate DVD or even Blu-Ray player to connect directly to the TV. That's what I did.

You can replace your RV stereo/DVD player with a Car stereo/DVD player. The RV radios provide three zones while the car ones only provide two, but most of the car ones can separate the sound and play the DVD to a 'rear' zone while playing the radio to the main zone. If you get it wired right, you can make the 'outside' the main zone and the inside speakers the 'rear' zone.

Food for thought. Me personally, I'd just use separate speakers for the outside. I've got some old computer speakers that run off a headphone jack I've been known to use outside a time or two. Since you have the outside kitchen, you could even mount them out there and then you wouldn't have to store them anywhere.
