outside speakers .

My palomino 32bhok-6 has Jensen outside speakers and although
They work they leave a lot to be desired.

They are tinny and do not produce a desirable sound.

Has anyone replaced there's with something with decent
Sound?

I don't want 500.00 bose and I do not want 20.00 "flashback " kracos.

Any suggestions?

CW has outside speakers, though I think they are Jensen. Jesnsen makes different levels of speakers, their higher line sounds good; a friend had them on his boat.

First thing to do is pull the unit and check the wiring. Last year we had a customer that kept complaining of poor sound quality. I replaced speakers, as was told to do by boss, and no better. Then I pulled the unit and checked the wiring. It was all messed up. The a left (+) wire might go to the A left speaker, but the C right (-) wire would be the other one going to the same speaker. Same for other groups, Speakers A,B, & C. Need to check that each speaker has the correct wires to it. Keep us posted.

There has been a shift to using 3" speakers in many units and on the exteriors. This scenario does not provide for much bass reproduction so while you can get some volume you are not going to get much bass (especially if they are "out of phase" as described above regarding the speaker wiring).

We have an M5 exterior (marine) speaker that sounds very good and are very reasonably priced. Concertone® M1 Speaker

If you want to go crazy, most of our newer entertainment systems also have two sub woofer outputs so you could add a passive sub outside...

thanks windrider and bob .

I think for the average person they may sound "ok" but I like some bass and if you put to much bass input into these they really don't give a good sound .
imo I think they are hooked up correctly I am just fussy about sound quality .
non the less I will pull head and check to make sure every things on the up and up .

Out of phase will certainly destroy any bass. I'd say a decent replacement speaker would help, check out Crutchfield and see what they have for waterproof or boat applications. And as a sidebar, I still have a Kraco CB radio that works very well that travels with me. It's an antique, 23 channel unit, a few higher channels are in place, a little tweaking here and there, but "almost" stock. How about CMC stereos from that time period?

Go here.

http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearc..._speakers.html

If you can't find something through them it probably doesn't exist.

I agree...we have to have the volume on the Concertone up to something like 25 in order to get sound you can actually hear throught the outside speakers. And that means you can't have the inside speakers on at the same time, or you'd go deaf in a hurry.

I just assumed it was designed that way to keep the noise levels down outside the trailer to prevent camp ground rage from the neighbors.

Another friendly note: A good place to compare to Crutchfield is Woofers Etc @ http://www.woofersetc.com/c-118-speakers.aspx
While I love Crutchfield's selection, Woofers Etc has great prices. Just check the shipping, if applicable, to ensure the price is still lower. I have used both to great success. Might save you 20-60 bones...

Cool

DW got me these speakers from Kohl's for our last camper because we didn't have exterior speakers. The outside ones on our new 5er sound okay but the placement sucks. In order to hear them in my entertainment area, I have to turn them up so much that they deafen anyone standing in the kitchen. These work great just sitting in my pass thru storage. I added an outlet and cable jack, and when i get time, I will be fashioning mounting brackets for them. Also, the pair was only 129.99 and they will operate on 110v or you can use alkaline batteries.

JL Audio Marine is the way to go..I have them in my boat and they rock...They are not BOSE price...but they are a little on the high end, about $300 a set, but the quality is unmatched...I will be upgrading my outdoor speakers to them..Crutchfield.com has them, they also have a very nice selection of higher quality speakers probably for any price point, any marine grade speakers will work..I for one am also looking to upgrade the interior ones, they suck, and while watching a movie..blah...
I have a prime Time Lacrosse BTW
