Plastic floor register covers

So we picked up our new 2018 Rockwood 8311WS three days ago and I have been trying to find something to prevent dirt, debris (and all kinds of crap basically) from falling into the floor registers. In our old TT we had metal registers and used the magnetic protectors. I've searched the forums (maybe I'm not doing it right) but surprisingly, haven't found anything on the subject. I thought about unscrewing the registers and blocking them from below, but they are too deep and that won't work. I haven't come up with what I would consider a "good" solution, so I'm wondering if anyone else has.
Thank you in advance,

Charlie

Go to Lowe’s and buy metal registers. Now your magnetic covers will stick!
Works for me.

Take one out and take it to the store as see what matches up.

Tape screen wire over the bottom of the new metal registers.

I just pick up a vacuum attachment at the local flea market. It has a bunch of long fingers on it. Fits right into the heat vents to clean them without any problems. Works on ice maker fan, ac vent , key board, all kind of stuff.

Vent filters

This is what I put in my floor vents last year. Just unscrew the vents and place filter in opening and reattach vent. May need to trim a bit but traps any dirt from falling in to duct.

Thanks for your reply. I've been doing some hunting (on Amazon) and actually found some dampened and undampened brown metal registers that have the screw holes 11" on center, which is exactly what I need. Just trying to decide if I want to go with the dampened ones that I can close off, or the undampened ones and use the magnetic covers. I'm leaning toward dampened.....

The plastic ones are also available, dampened or not dampened. The dampeners will not prevent things from falling through the grate but will stop things from getting in the duct. Of course, metal may be the way to go.

The powder coated (brown) metal ones look nicer than the plastic ones, and I'm really more concerned about keeping debris out of the duct. We can always run a vacuum cleaner over the closed register, is where I'm at right now.....

I am a little more concerned with placing weight on the plastic vents which could break them. It seems to me that plastic seems to get more brittle with time, and even metal will show signs of fatigue. I like the idea about the filter material, but does it restrict air flow which makes the furnace burn hotter? That could cause premature failure of the furnace. In my home, it is not recommended to use this type of media for every vent for that very reason. Perhaps screen material? Even that will restrict air flow to some degree... and it will require additional maintenance because it will attract dust and accumulate debris. I am very interested in hearing more about this. My heat vents are on the floor... my air conditioner ducts are in the ceiling.

Ask any rv service provider restricting air flow can damage your furnace. Once you have low air the sail switch may trigger shutting down the furnace. Worse case furnace could overheat burning out limit control.

Plastic floor register covers

I unscrew the registers and place that cling wrap stuff on the floor then screw the registers back on. Just make sure you remember to remove it when you need to turn on your furnace. I rarely use my furnace so this works for me.

I just use a piece of brown duct tape over the top of the vent holes during the times I'm not using the furnace (which is most of the time). It stays on quite well, and I can just sweep over the top of it with no problem.
