Talking Pop out cable Flex Guard

Like most everyone else i have found the problem with the Cable flex guard is that it is mounted with a pivot on the pop out side and a solid mount on the chassis side. Meaning the weak point is the solid side where the cheap plastic bends and eventually breaks. I have heard of some people buying a new one flipping it over and mounting it backwards stitching the old and new together to give you pivots on both sides. My local dealer told me not to waste my money on a new flex guard and just use muffler flex strapping to fix it. This is my fix. I bought a gate hinge at the local hardware store as well as bolts, self locking nuts and fender washers to spread to load on the flex guard side of the hinge. I cut the broken flex guard so it was straight and removed the piece broken off still attached to the chassis side mount. Mounted the hinge, it was really easy only had to drill one hole in the chassis side mount. drilled three holes in the flex guard to mount it to the hinge. installed bolts and washers and nuts. This should allow the pop out to go in and out without placing any pressure on the flex guard. Whole mod took 30 minutes.

Mine hasn't broken yet but I may do this preemptively.
