Power awning tie down?

This will be my first trailer with a power awning.
Tying down the awning was a necessity on the old manual awnings.
Is it necessary to tie down the power awnings which seems to be more flexible and forgiving?

I had a power Awning on my last camper and always tied it down. Seemed the wind would move it around a lot. Also was camping with a friend awhile back he also has a power awning and during the lest amount of wind we would bring it in cause of the movement. So I would suggest yes use some sort of tie down on it.

They can be pretty lively in the wind, both up and down motion

Yes you will need to tie it down especially if windy. Awning poles are what is good to have for the wind. Later RJD

Yes the power awnings move around at the slightest wind. I added the brackets and poles made by fellow FR Forum member Turbs. I have been very pleased with the quality. I think if you go to the classified section and search Turbs or awning poles the thread should come right up on how to contact him. He made me a set of black powdercoated ones and I love them.
Nevermind searching I found the link

I doubt you ruined anyone's day by asking a question.

It's just this subject has been discussed THOUSANDS of times on this forum and with your low post count (21) it's often assumed you might not have knowledge of searching the subject before posting. Those with higher post counts often tend to know the drill.

In any case here are some search results.
You will need something or plan on retracting the awning every time someone sneezes.
Happy reading!

Most power awnings have wind sencers which will automatly retract the awning when wind reaches 35 mph. I wouldn't want my awning out in high wind, however if you do make sure to turn the sencer off.

I have two power awnings on my rig.
Neither have wind sensors.

I would guess most power awnings do not have wind sensors.

I have wanted to respond like this soooo many times on other forums! I'd assume that almost every single issue that an RV could possibly have has already been talked about ... which means that no one would be posting questions anymore if things weren't rehashed.

With that said, this is the 2nd RV with a power awning and I've never tied it down. However, I don't leave it out when it gets too windy (whatever "too windy" means).

I have only had the opportunity to take our new TT out once. This weekend will be the second time. I was somewhat discouraged the first time by how little wind it took to get the awning jumping. I think we were having 7 mph wind gusts, if that can be called a gust, and it was whipping and jumping. We may have been facing the perfect direction to catch a stream blowing through he campground. I will certainly be monitoring it this trip.

Received a message from Turbs about tie-down poles and he is unable to make some until late summer/fall.

True... I'd bet too that almost every issue has been asked about previously on any given forum... BUT... internet forum etiquette has always been... do a search first and if you can't find the answer to your specific question, post that you searched and couldn't find the answer.

None of the forums I frequent mind trying to help those in need. And, suggesting a search is really a way of helping people in of itself.

When the same questions get asked over and over (often called beating a dead horse) and the topic has already been discussed several times (usually within the last few days) it often dilutes the answers to the point of being hard to discern.

Just my 2¢... YMMV.

Not trying to take any business away from Turbs, but if you need the tie downs before he can get them to you and have some minor fab\welding skills you can make your own like I did. I bought adjustable tent poles from Cabela's and mounted these to my awning rails.

Not all have wind sensors. I don't tie it down but just take it in if I am gone or the wind gets wild. I've seen them blow over the roof of campers. We lost six awnings last week here. One lifted the deck and slammed it into a ttailer.
