Propane Tank upgrade

Last year we had a cold week and I turned the furnace on for the overnight, by morning the trailer was very cold. Found out the tank I had turned on must have been low on fuel and ran out overnight. Just found this at Sam's for $29 and got 2 new tanks with gauges so will always know how much fuel is there. I have tried the add on ones but there wasn't enough room in the compartment to see them good and these being built on the tank didn't have that problem.

We swapped ours last year when we saw these at Sam's Club. Our Clipper 17FQ only has one tank so having a tank with a gauge was a no-brainer.

I have Viking cylinders. Can see liquid propane right through them. Very light too. Only a few pounds empty.

What's the cost for a 30lb cylinder? And where is the best place to buy them at.

Check on the web. I like more capacity with less weight and the ability to see what is inside.
Don't let anyone know you got them though, some folks think their evil.

Prices for those composite cylinders are outrageous.

$167.50 for a 20 pounder.
Viking Fiberglass Propane Tanks

vs.

$33 for a standard steel 20 pounder

A little camp store here in Charleston has the 20 pounders for around $100. You need to shop around. Viking will sell them direct but at a premium so they don't compete with their retailers.

$167.50 - $33.00 = $134.50. You can buy a lot of propane (or other things) for that amount of money!

The gas gauge one is $48.50: https://jet.com/product/detail/dbe43...FZE0aQodVUIB5Q

$167.50 - $48.50 = $119.00. You can still buy a lot of propane.

Unless you're really pushing your tongue weight or you REALLY need to see the exact level in your tank, the Viking cylinders seem pretty cost-prohibitive to me.

The gauge one I got from Sam's was only $29 and the weight of it empty wasn't more than 10 lbs and still is no more than the originals weight.

I think I paid even less than that, it wasn't but a few dollars more than a regular 20 pounder.

Propane Tank upgrade

I had the dealer include a pair when we bought our trailer.
The part about them not exploding was a good selling point for me.

Oh, it was $299 for the pair, plus the special rack for them to ride on the tongue.

I forgot about the additional safety feature.
Yes they are more expensive.
I figure the cost difference can aways be offset by carrying a cheaper widget or ....?

In previous discussions some folks views, regarding new composite propane tanks, we're incredibly negative.
Sorry if I offended anyone.

Thanks, I had missed other discussions concerning composites and was confused.
Any application of technology that deviates from the norm is going to attract it's naysayers.
