Angry Question Honda eu2000i

I have a 21FBRS Micro Lite. I have a 30 amp surge protector. I also have a Honda eu200i gen. When I plug the TT into the gen the surge protector tells me I have an open ground. Is there away I can run the TT safely with an open ground?

Have you grounded the generator? Gensets need a ground which is usually accomplished by driving a copper rod into the ground and hooking it to the generator. There is a connection for this on many gensets. Should not need a large rod. See if the manual for the genset requires a ground to the unit. Just a suggestion...

Maybe the question I need to ask is. Do I really need a surge protector when running off a generator?

I brought up the question to Progressive when I first found the problem. They sent instructions to build a pigtail to remove the error - to be used only when running from the Honda generator. .pdf file attached.

I just bought the Honda 1000 watt generator and questioned if I need to use my surge protector with it. Are there any particular reasons why it's not needed? Any other opinions?

Thanks

Surge Needed or not the work around this is taking a 15amp plug and bonding the neutral prong to the ground prong and plugging it into gennie.
Problem solved.
