Quik Mod for cabinet trim
Just a quick mod that some of you might be interested in doing. My coach is a 2007 Georgetown SE 315 that came with light colored oak trimmings. The cabinets of course are not real wood, (cabinet doors are) but just an overlay of oak colored contact paper. Nonetheless, they are serviceable and look nice. My issue was the edges of the cabinets that were near the entrance and the slide for the frig/dining area. Just over a year of ownership, a few trips, etc and the edges were taking a beating. (we have 7 grandkids - doesn't help my cause at all!)
At first I bought some of that clear plastic corner cover stuff that you use to protect the wallpaper edges in a house. It worked okay, but I never liked the look of it. Then I found some real oak corner pieces at Lowes. They already have a 90 degree cut in the back so they fit the corner and have some turning work cut into them on the front and look very nice. I sanded them down a bit to close up the wood grain and gave them a wipe with Miniwax golden oak color stain. It's a perfect match to the cabinets. They were a bit long and had to be trimmed to fit, and I installed them with an air powered finishing nailer, but you could certainly get by with a few small finishing nails. I would pre-drill holes in the trim to keep it from cracking if you are using the nail method. Once finished the results are outstanding and now I don't have to worry about people kicking the edges of my cabinets anymore.
