Raising trailer coupler or tongue

Has any one here removed the couple from the under side of the frame and installed a new one one the top to get more clearance? With our pro pride it hangs low and I assume other hitching systems ride low with some of the lower travel trailers. I don't want to raise the trailer by modifying the suspension as then the o/s kitchen will be too high and I will need four steps instead of 3. If I move my coupler up I will gain 5 inches. To get the trailer riding level I only have 5-6" clearance under the hitch, and I would like it slightly nose down.

Just wondering if anyone else has done this?

Might want to check out this thread:

The guy had them re-weld the hitch coupler multiple times before his problems went away.

As long as it is done by a competent welder, don't see a problem with it.

I'm debating the same modification. My windjammer has the bottom mount coupler and the Propride is awfully low. It's only bottomed once on the road but that was more than I want!!

The other issue I have with it being low is that many camp sites slope towards the rear and I can't get the tongue low enough, I end up needing to dig a small hole for the hitch head to drop into!!
