Rear Bumper Mod for Generator Mount

I measured my bumper this morning. It is .080 in thick and welded solidly to the frame (about 1/8" thick stuff).

I know the stock bumper is too thin to mount a generator to, but I was thinking about cutting off the stock tube and welding a 1/8" or 3/16" thick 4" square tube to the frame (much like the stock one is now with some horizontal gussets to give more surface area for the weld.

I could then fabricate a rack to mount the generator to. This will add a total of almost 200 lbs to the rear of the trailer.

And if you guys think this won't work, where would be the best place to mount a Honda eu3000is on a microlite 19fd?

I think HERK will be able to give you some advice on the rear generator mount.

No doubt it will be "Don't do it".

doing this will void your frame's warranty.
so, it's your decision.

Here's my thinking on it if I were to have my grey and black tanks full and they are located in the very rear of my frame it would be like 600 lbs give or take. So 200 lbs is nothing. Yes it is a little bit more leverage but if you build it right it would be like a extension of the frame. That's my 2 cents.

The Honda eu3000is weighs about 125 lbs, which is a lot of weight hanging two feet off the back of your microlight. I hope you reconsider this approach and look for a place in your tv to transport it, otherwise you might be leaving it in the middle of the highway.

Yeah, probably a very bad idea.

On the note of rear bumpers. What is the total carrying capacity for these 4 x 4 tube storage bumpers. I was wondering if I could mount a bike rack off the back of them VIA bolts , is this recommended

And even that is a little scary, all things considered.

When I picked up our new trailer at the end of March, it specifically had a sticker on the back bumper saying not to add any additional weight...bikes, generators, etc. to the back bumper or it would void the warranty.

What about an under trailer tool box big enough for the generator or one that fits just behind the coupler on the V section. There are boxes made for that area as well.

Not sure it the under trailer box would void warranty.
Found these on ebay. $120 approx.

Best place is either in a storage compartment or the bed of the truck.

It would be a perfect location but you have your propane tanks and battery in that area.

I'd be worried about a fuel spill or the smell getting into the living area since most of those storage bins are on the inside of the TT.

I got a 320 rs with a bic-rack rated for 450 lbs. I mounted a Suncast box on back with Champion generator. Is working fine so far. Total weight is about 200 lbs.

But that TT was built for it(?) An RS320 is not a light weight. I have a Salem 221RBXL that I would not put the available 'back pack' option on it because it was not ordered with it. FR beefs up the area where the 'back pack' mounts to the frame. Wish I would have ordered it

The dealer will put a hitch on the back. But they want a arm and a leg for it. They priced me 832.00 so I could pull my Jon boat that weighs maybe 500 pounds. Still under warranty. And warranty the work.
