Rear camera purchase help?

I just purchased a new F/R Vibe trailer, 31 foot, 268RKS. Very excited, but dont get it till May. Will be towing this trailer with a 2010 F150 supercab with a 6.5 foot box, so combined length will be in the 50-55 foot range?
I want to add a wireless rear camera that I can mount on the back of the trailer and leave on at all times while driving. This will help for lane changes as well as backing up etc.
Question is, there are a ton of different kits out there, anywhere from $50.00 to $400.00. As I have just paid for this trailer ( $$ broke ), wife is telling me to behave myself with any further spending.....
Has anyone found a great deal on a unit that does the job? I'd like wide angle (170 degree) so that I can see the lanes, and preferably a 7" screen. I've seen some ebay that look decent but I guess you never know till you try?

I'm facing the same issue. Ask wife to consider the pain and agony of a single, minor wreck. Just the possible increase in insurance premiums is enough to make me feel the nicer models. I want to dodge that bullet at all costs.

I once had a wireless camera on my popup, and the reception was horrible (and the distance wasn't that great). I also think my cell phone interfered with it. Plus, I'd go by a pawn shop and I'd see their security camera video in my screen.

I finally scrapped it and installed a wired camera. When I upgraded to a TT, I kept the wired camera. It takes putting a few long A/V cables under the camper body and under and into your truck, but it was worth it to me. I just connect the camper to the truck when I hook up the plug.

I don't know if there are good wireless cameras out there, but I'd bet you'd pay a lot more for a good one to get good reception at that distance. With the wired ones, you can get a camera, the monitor and all the cables you need for less than 75 dollars.

I've got my Voyager WVOS511 mounted on my second 5er. I did add a 35' extension cable and an 80"antenna extension so the antenna is mounted on the front cap.
I wired it to be on whenever my taillights are on. Put mine on for reasons you listed but also to keep an eye on this when going down the road.

more trouble than they're worth

I went through trying to run backup cameras on one of our trailer a few years ago, spent more money than I should have on two or three different setups, and all of them only worked half of the time. I became of the conclusion that the cameras were not meant to be on full time and it would burn out the camera. we just bought a Windjammer 3008 and it is pre-wired for a rear view camera but it only comes on whenever the tail lights are on on the trailer. so I kind of feel like if it was on all the time it also would burn out the camera. This is just the experience that I had

Here is the camera that I purchased. It is a bit pricey, but the reviews were excellent. I also ordered the side cameras but have yet to install them.

I used this one
Rear View Safety RVS-770613 Rear View Camera System RVS-770613

I used this
Carlon 1 in. x 25 ft. Flexible Electrical Non-Metallic Tubing-12008-025 - The Home Depot

held up by conduit clips to frame under TT. Makes install simple, camera excellent quality and no signal loss, Has the ability to add two more cameras, ( maybe one for hitching up).

When running cable add an extra pull string should you want to add additional wiring later such as backup lights etc.

I have been using unit from 4UCam, may wish to check them. Used on 30 TT, moved up to fiver, used same camera mounted to rear bumper of fiver. Now have flicker on monitor however they have an extender for 50.00 or less I'm gonnna get. When asked about flicker they suggested the extender and they also have a wireless model guaranteed no flicker etc for $350.00 I think it was.

I buy all my camera setups at www.tadibrothers.com. I've had good luck with them. You can get one of their already made systems or design your own. They have pretty much anything you need.

Our new camper came with one but found out it is just a mirror and everything is backwards. Careful what you get.
