Replace Gravity Water Inlet on Travel Trailer

Hello fellow campers. I replaced the gravity water inlet on our trailer with one that locks and thought I'd share the process. I wasn't too fond of having to cut a bigger hole in our trailer, but it ended up not being that big a deal and I'm happy with the results. Enjoy

Very nice install. The only thing I'd do differently would be to caulk the holes for the screws before putting in the screws, just as an extra measure of waterproofing.

Is there a reason you wanted the style with a door rather than replacing it with the same model? The lock doesn't really provide any security but perhaps the door might help keep the port cleaner?

Thanks. I thought about caulking the holes, but I felt like the butyl tape provided a really good seal, especially with the caulk around the outside and the protection provided by the door.

Went with the locking door style for a few reasons. IMO, the door provides protection from the elements, keeps it cleaner for sure, lock provides a small level of security, and looks much nicer than the original style. I'd disagree with the fact that it doesn't provide "any" security. The fact that it has a door covering the cap and has a lock rather than just a screw top is at the very least, more secure than before.

Nice mod and it does make for a clean look!

Did your helper bail on you or was he busy doing other mods?

Nice work!
Thanks for sharing.

As for the CH751 key comment... I doubt those who carry that key are the ones you need to be worrying about.

Yep!

And everyone knows....or should know that any lock only keeps honest people honest. If someone wants to do "damage", steal your car or break into your house they will figure out a way!

Again nice mod!

Well the door lock would be security against curious little hands!

Definitely a cleaner look. I think that Rockwood has started using the door style on new 2018 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite units, too. At least I saw some at the Toronto RV show last January that had the door style.

Owning a travel trailer...does not necessarily make one an honest person. Just saying that there are millions of that key out there.

Agree with the comments on security.

While it's not one of the widely used CH751 locks, it's also no match for a flat head screwdriver.

No... owning a R/V doesn't guarantee anything.
But rest assured, if someone really wants to pi$$ with your fresh water fill, nothing will keep them out.

The OP's mod will keep kids from messing with it and make a few others think twice. Nothing wrong with that.

I did the same a while back, only with out the lock. Did not like the look of the other sticking out to get caught by a branch. Also installed a new city water connection that is recessed with built in pressure control. Only thong sticking out now is the black tank flush port.

Not just Travel Trailers; CH751 is used on backyard sheds as well.
