replace outdoor kitchen lock with slam latch?
Has anyone upgraded the outdoor kitchen latches with slam latches? maybe this is a option but I havent seen a outdoor kitchen with them..
I was looking them over on my Coachmen 320bhds and I might consider the idea. I know it wont be able to "slam" the outdoor kitchen door but I think it would be a little more secure and I would have less keys to drag around.. It would also look a lot better... I would still keep the key lock on the door but would replace the latches.

I have thought about doing that with the front storage/battery box on mine.
Not sure how to make a template of the latches so they fit snug.

I bet the manufacturer of the slam latches may send a template with.
If not I bet you could request one.

I have looked at some on the net, none that I saw look to have a template with them.
Two keyed alike would be just the ticket.

I actually talked to one of the Sabre guys about that when I was at the factory. He was gauging my interest level in it- if I liked the idea or not.
My only issue with slam latches is that you need 2 hands to open them.

My other is busy holding onto my MILKSHAKE!
But- I always seem to be carrying something when I need to get into my hatches (hence the reason that I'm getting in them in the first place).
I've thought of some kind of weird fabbed up handle for when parked at a campground that would tie the 2 handles together. Pull up on it and it opens both.

Turbs, I havent done the swap yet, I sent southco a email requesting a part number or a template for the door. I might even try to contact Coachmen as they are only a hour and a half away. Ill post all the info once I get it! This appears to be a easy swap.

Coachmen was no help.... I'm sure the doors as a whole are outsourced...
Quote:
Hello,
I just purchased a Coachmen Liberty Edition 320BHDS with the outdoor kitchen and I would like to replace the outdoor twist latches with two "slam lock" style latches to match my front storage compartment. I wasn't sure if this was a option and didn't ask the salesman. I would have to carry one less key, and it would match the trailer. I have not been able to find a place that has that style slam latch and was hoping for a part number of place where I could purchase the whole latch assembly. The brand on the key is "Southco" but a search on their website didn't come up with anything. Attached are a few photos of the latch I'm looking for.
Thank you!

Dear Mr. Coleman; thank you for contacting Coachmen RV; a division of Forest River Inc. I’m sorry; we do not offer an optional door with a slam latch.
Kind regards,

Agreed....while trying to one hand mine open, the bottom of my brown bottles box tore open...all my camping "buddies" went poof into the dirt...so yes...kinda a pain to open with one hand. ...
sent from fat fingers via a space dish thing with no regard to grammer.

The rockwood windjammer outdoor kitchen has slam latches
Of course it has a different key than the entry doors and it's not a ch751 key
We got 6 different keys with our trailer. Very frustrating
