Rockwood 2604 mods and Tongue Wt

I will hopefully have my 2604 next wednesday and am already thinking of some mods to do myself or maybe even have the dealer do.

I was wondering if any 2604 owners have replaced the 20# LP tanks with 30# tanks??

And has anyone put 2 batteries in place for more power???

If so, how has this affected your TW?????

With the battery and propane tank you should be fine. It will not add not much weight.

I'm wondering why you'd want 2 30s instead of the 20s
that come with it??
Do you plan to do a lot of boondocking?? (camping with
no electricity)
Many of us use small electric heaters when camping in
cool/cold weather and save the noisy and expensive
LP furnace.

I've had 2 20s for many years on 2 different trailers
and never had any urge to up the weight.
I can easily toss these 20s in my car to take them
to the filling station. I don't exactly have a "bad" back
but I try to avoid lifting the extra heavy stuff when not
necessary.
I've also got dual 12v batteries. No problem.

I did just that with our old Edgewater. 2 Trojan T125 6 Volter's and 30lb bottles. I think it added abt 50lbs or so tongue weight.

Yes, we are planning on boondocking and staying at state and Fed parks with limited hookups. My thinking WRT LP upgrade is that IF the dealer gives me a good price, assuming credit for the 20 # tanks, then why not do it. I can always do it myself, but 30# tanks are not as common to pick up as 20#.

I am curious about the electric heaters???? I assume that they are not 12V, and therefore of limited use/ run time when boondocking??

we pick up our 2604 at the end of April. This will be our third trailer and I can tell you that there will be no problem with the extra weight. I believe the tongue weight is around 600 pounds and that will be no problem for your truck. Not sure if it is different from dealer to dealer but our trailer comes with two 30 pound tanks. Hope this helps. Just a Canadian view

20 lb tanks are everywhere BUT I don't exchange them.
I get mine re-filled and the re-fill stations are fewer
and farther between now days. A few years ago gas
stations had LP re-fill stations. Now they have exchange
cages that save them the expense and trouble of a big
storage tank and pump and scales and having to go
outside in all kinds of weather to fill your tank.
Now you just trade in on a full one but you pay extra for that.
Even if you're boondocking you can't run your LP furnace
a lot because it sucks battery juice like a kid sucks
cool-aid on a hot day!

No you can't use an electric heater when boon docking.
Around KY all state parks have electric hookups so we
can use a little 1400 watt heater in cold weather.
I've camped in National Parks and used my furnace also.
We can get about 4 nights and then it's time to get out
the Honda and re-charge batteries.
Last fall we spent a week at Cumberland Gap National
Historical Park. We stayed in a loop with no hookups
because the electric loops were crowded.
Our site was all alone! The CG fee was less. In a week
we saved more than enough to fill my tanks and we
used slightly less than one 20# tank. I charged batteries
one time.

LP Tank size is up to you. I don't think the increase in
weight will be a big issue but that's a guess.
My water tank is right in front. I typically don't tow
with it more than half full. I have towed with it full
but not as a rule.
That is your choice, you will probably know if the CG you're
headed to has a water spigot or not.
My trailer actually needed some extra tongue weight when
new. The 2 LP tanks and 2 batteries and half tank of
water seem to cut down on sway. My WD hitch keeps
me level even with the tongue weight.
