Rockwood A-Frame Sofa/Bed Shelf Mod

Has anyone considered modding the shelf that is at the rear of the A126 (Not sure if the A122 or A128 have this or not).

There's a 'shelf' that actually provides support for the back of the sofa in this model to keep the back of the sofa from being completely against the back of the camper (and causing your head to be into the A-Frame ceiling where it's low at the back end).

Had anyone modded this with a hinge that would allow it to fold up when the bed is down to keep it more out of the way?

I'm considering replacing the wooden supports that are there with hinges for the shelf, and hinging the center support piece to allow it to fold flat, and the shelf fold up when using the bed.

The shelf is only about 4 inches deep but the person sleeping at on that side of the bed has to deal with it while sleeping. Wasn't too big of a problem (that's the wife's side of the bed) on our first trip out. Hoping someone else had done this mod already on a similar camper (or same) and had some tips / advice.
