Running lights on shore power
All,
I noticed a camper that had it's trailer exterior running lights illuminated while on shore power. They would need a 12V source possibly off the battery. While there is not much value to this modification, it sparked my curiosity on how this was accomplished. Just wondering if any of you all have performed this.
Thank you,

If you jumper two pins on the 7-way plug, you can do this. And if you want to get fancy, you can plug an old fashioned automotive turn signal blinker directly onto the connector and make the running lights flash on and off.

There's actually more than one thread on this. Some folks do this trick to keep their running lights lit at night at their camp sites for "more visibility".

That thread I linked to shows a pic of where to put the fuse jumper in the seven pin.

I used a inline fuse holder. I added terminals to each end of the wire, that way it fits into the 7pin plug by slightly twisting the ends of the terminals. It fits into the plug better than the fuse by itself and no chance of damaging the plug.

Not a great picture but couple weekends ago had both my trailers at a racing event. Picture was taken before it was too dark but can kinda see both trailers have their running lights on.
As mentioned jump both top pins in the 7 pin plug and good to go.
I do it as I like being different and like chicken lights.

Looks good! I was thinking about using a diode and dropping the voltage down, maybe around 6 volts. So maybe not *quite* as bright and hopefully the light housings not overheat and deform. (Have not switched out running lights with LED's yet)

Just an FYI, a mini fuse seems to fit too. Don't need to bend the terminals at all, but it isn't the tightest fit.

From what I understood "chicken lights" were ecxess lights over and above what is required by DOT, not the regular running lights.
See pic for many chicken lights...
As for why they are called that? Not sure, just assumed driver was afraid of the dark.

chicken lights were originally called that when "playing chicken". Both would turn all their lights off and the first one to turn them on was the "chicken"
