Rv coating and protection

We bought a new fr3 30ds RV and the dealer wants $1000 to coat it and protect the upolstry. Does that sound right? Some sites say we can do it ourselves.

Wax the exterior and buy a can of Scotch Guard for fabric inside.

Maybe not quite $1K (unless they don't do it) but $900 for sure!

Worn-out dealer gimmick,... Can I interest you in a bridge?

Bring your rig to me. I'll do it for $750.00
20 bucks for some good wax, 20 bucks for some Scotch Guard.
I'll pocket $710.00.
Oh wait, I have wax on hand...
I'll pocket $730.00.

Scotch Guard, love that stuff. Use it yearly, keeps your car/rv smelling new.

Ditto!

A great benefit of waxing your rig yourself is not only getting a better result than a minimum wage lot boy will deliver, you will quickly note anything that needs your attention, such as screws backing out, loose trim, caulking needs etc. I literally had a front valence panel fall off while waxing. Would not have found out till way too late out on the road had I not done it myself!

A few year ago, I bought a new 5th wheel. At closing, the dealer asked me if I wanted clear-coat protection and talked me into it. Two hours later it was done for a mere $900! Shame on me. I agree with the others. It's a dealer sham that puts big bucks in their pockets. Just bought a Berkshire and the factory info states 4X clear-coat is standard equipment. Still the dealer offered to add it to the vehicle for $500 even though the factory says it comes with it! (There is wisdom in a multitude of counselors! Go with what the majority of posts say...don't do it.)
