Rv coating and protection

We bought a new fr3 30ds RV and the dealer wants $1000 to coat it and protect the upolstry. Does that sound right? Some sites say we can do it ourselves.

Wax the exterior and buy a can of Scotch Guard for fabric inside.

Maybe not quite $1K (unless they don't do it) but $900 for sure!

Worn-out dealer gimmick,... Can I interest you in a bridge?

Bring your rig to me. I'll do it for $750.00
20 bucks for some good wax, 20 bucks for some Scotch Guard.
I'll pocket $710.00.
Oh wait, I have wax on hand...
I'll pocket $730.00.

Scotch Guard, love that stuff. Use it yearly, keeps your car/rv smelling new.

Ditto!

A great benefit of waxing your rig yourself is not only getting a better result than a minimum wage lot boy will deliver, you will quickly note anything that needs your attention, such as screws backing out, loose trim, caulking needs etc. I literally had a front valence panel fall off while waxing. Would not have found out till way too late out on the road had I not done it myself!

A few year ago, I bought a new 5th wheel. At closing, the dealer asked me if I wanted clear-coat protection and talked me into it. Two hours later it was done for a mere $900! Shame on me. I agree with the others. It's a dealer sham that puts big bucks in their pockets. Just bought a Berkshire and the factory info states 4X clear-coat is standard equipment. Still the dealer offered to add it to the vehicle for $500 even though the factory says it comes with it! (There is wisdom in a multitude of counselors! Go with what the majority of posts say...don't do it.)

You can get a bottle of paint sealant from Meguiar's for about $20 or you can even get the newer ceramic sealant for $100 and a spray can of Scotch Guard from amazon for $10 and it will just as good, I promise.

Just so you know... a 4 step (4X) clear coat paint job and clear coat protection are completely different things.

Totally agree with LairdT on getting to know your vehicle. I enjoy waxing my cars, having that great feeling of satisfaction out of a job well done. Not looking forward to undercoating my RV but will consider it a valuable learning experience.

Call me lazy, but I opted to go with the paint protection. The thought of waxing a 42 foot behemoth swayed me to go with the paint protection. 3 1/2 years later and it still shines like new. I've washed it 3 times and never waxed it.
I paid $1200 for the paint protection, fabric protection, mink oil leather protection and carpet protection. The company is XZILON and they provide a 5 year warranty against paint fading among other things.
My RV is stored outside and uncovered. I have no room at my house to wash and wax it. It is stored at a seasonal campsite.

Well compared to us thats a bargain. I do still think it is good to have depending on whether you can wax it but we live in the desert with no sun protection so we wanted the best to protect it but they just screwed us that is all.
