Sabre Bike Rack Mod

As all Sabre owners the 450lb bike rack is GREAT but not your friend when trying to secure bikes. I have mod mine and this is what I have come up with.
Problem no way to secure bikes and bikes don't fit in slots.

Solution cut out part of bike rack to allow wheels to drop in. Then weld new box tubing in to support wheels.

Used 3/4 inch conduit and conduit clamps to attach bike to conduit for support and security.

Removed 1 1/4 OEM tube and drilled new hole to fit a quick release pin right beside hole that was there to secure conduit to bike rack.

Now I need to go out and finish the job. I have some heat shrink I'm going to put on the conduit clamps and some 3/4 inch split pipe insulation that I'm going to place around the conduit. I'll post another pic when I get completed. I need a nap now.

Great solution. I don't know what "they" were thinking when they designed the rack on the Sabre. When I bought my Sabre I just assumed the wheels of the bike would fit properly in the slots and all I would have to do is figure how to secure them. I mounted bike blocks on a board and clamped that to the rack but I will have to take the front wheels off the bike each time. Haven't pulled it yet with my mod. Will look forward to seeing all your pictures on this modification. Thanks.

UPDATE Sabre Bike Rack Mod

Okay here are some pics of the final bike rack mod for our bikes. I'll test it out this weekend and see how it works.

Hope this helps. I tired of worring "Have my bikes fell off?"
