Salem bumper mod

I wanted to use my bumper to haul generators and gas. The bumper wall is to thin to carry anything IMHO. Went to my local Reeses Hitch shop. This is what we came up with. I can puta cargo carrier or pull my box trailer if I want.

IMHO, yer gonna have some trouble.

I understand that some of the states that do allow double towing, it is only behind a 5th wheel. A trailer behind a bumper pull trailer is going to really aggravate sway.

Any weight added to the trailer bumper is gonna take weight off of the tongue. I figure on my setup, I loose 15 lbs. of tongue weight for every 40 lbs. of bumper weight.

I cannot believe you haven't exceeded tow capacity! how much does all that weigh?

Be careful with that setup...someone posted a pic not long ago of a overturned 1/2 ton truck pulling a TT and small trailer behind it on the interstate.
Don't know how the accident occurred but just seems like a lot of train there!

Ragin that's what my friend said when he seen the picture. Probably the only time I will pull the box trailer. Went to flying field with 40 lbs of rc airplans inside wanted to see how it road. But you gota admit it the receiver will pull a bt it will handle my 2 generators and gas to go with it. The was the main idea for adding the receiver, to keep all that equipment outside the tt. Thanks for everyone's input.

Looks good although I don't fancy pulling the trailer, what if you ever had to back up ugg, I have been thinking of doing this too a lot of the new "Lites" are coming with a platform/ basket already installed and being able to fold up when not in use, as far as I know the frames have not been made and heavier it's just a matter of cross bracing properly. I know a lot of people talk about warranty being void if you do anything to it but by what I have seen on here getting warranty from frame manufacturers is a whole task in it's self and if the work is done by a qualified dealer then you should have no problem.

DougP47 what did you do with the spare tire? I have been thinking of mounting it behind my propane tanks as I don't have the height to put it below.

I have pulled double before when we had our Nash TT. We had a hitch welded to the frame by a professional welder. They did all the wiring also. In Montana it is legal to tow double as long as both trailers have electronic brakes on them with a break away wire connect according to the Montana Highway Patrol. Mine did not. Had no trouble towing it at all. I was a total of 69 feet long.

Yep, I tried once and it did not turn out very good. I would unload the quad and use it to move the trailer. The trailer was easy to move by hand also.
