Satellites

I have cable at home. We would like a satellite in our camper. Question is which one is better for the money?

its all about what you like. for the most part they are the same. i like DISH myself but have direct TV in my RV dish had better remotes as they used a UHF, you can change channel from any where but direct TV has to be in room

you have to upgrade your DirecTV remote to RF from infrared $24... I change my channel from the basement at home

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s00

I use DirecTV at home and I take my receiver on the road with me and I picked up a second dish for the road.

Many, many threads on here comparing Dish to DirecTV...

I personally like dish network and it's ease of setup.
About 8 minutes start to finish.

Dish Network using the Tailgater. Used at FROG Rally and was done in 5-10 minutes from the time I set it out to watching TV. Set it on top of the motorhome to clear all the other units.

I have DirecTV at home but went with a Tailgater and Dish for the RV because: It cost to much for DirecTV HD, I pay $6.05 per month that I don't use the Dish service, it is easy to setup and when I got it there was a special for $199 for the Tailgater, receiver and 50 feet of cable. I had it shipped from a Dish dealer in Florida two day FedEx and I also didn't have to pay sales tax because I am in Texas and they Florida. That save about $17. Good Luck

I take my Directv receiver from home and use an old dish I had before my latest home upgrade. (You just have to make sure the receiver matches the dish. If they don't, you can order parts to make the dish match.)
Then, when setting up I use an android phone app called SatFinder. It shows me where to point the dish. It is easy to use and works every time.
Cost - $0 since I am using stuff I had and programming I am already paying for at home.

Wow that's a good deal. Whose the dealer in FL? Also you say 6.05/mo when not using, how much per mo when using. Also, what package did you get? Thx, Ben

I have the Dish Tailgater and like it. I added a second connection into my trailer so I can use two receivers. Cut out during heavy rains when we were out this past weekend, tho it did still work in southern Alberta during a previous trip! Couldn't get the HD channels there but the standard worked so that was a bonus.

I know that Dish recommends that you use a special receiver but does anyone know if you can actually use a home Dish DVR like the 625 with the Dish Tailgater. Found one for sale and thinking about buying it.

sat dish

RV HD SWM 5 Camping or Tail Gate Portable Satellite Dish Kit, SWM SL5s

This is the setrup i bought. it takes me ten minutes to setup and be done after a few times of doing it. its rather easier then i thought it would be. Now it takes me longer to assemble it as i take it all apart due to limited storage space. i use my receiver from home and pop it up and am going rather fast now

Like others have said, I use one of my receivers from home for Directv. I bought this setup, Heavy-Duty Combo Package for RV TV Satellite Dish, and the 5 satellite dish. Got to use it for the first time a few weeks ago. Setup for the first time took a little longer but that will come down the more I use it.

I have been using a set up similar to the two posts above, but getting tired of taking the time (or getting lazier) to set it up. Looking for something more automatic which is why I am considering the Dish Tailgater with my spare home DVR625.

Thanks for the replies.

Use Dish at home and a Tailgater in the 5er with a 3 position ladder mount, a pinbox mount and carry a portable tripod. Have run cable inside to the pinbox, ladder and tripod connections so I don't have to string cable for any but the tripod. Like it a lot!

I don't recall, the Tailgater and receiver came as a package. Just plugged it in, followed the instructions for setting the state, etc and it worked within about 10-15 minutes. Takes about 5-10 minutes now that I don't have to read the manual.

The tailgater uses different receiver than the standard one we use at home. Something about sending the power to the tailgater to power the aiming of it. We can use the receiver at home off the fixed position dish. I believe they have 2 or 3 receivers that work. The new ones do not have a local antenna port on them and require a second adapter. The one we are using has a satellite cable in port. Antenna in port. Cable and hdmi ports out. Also a phone line in port.

Like your ladder mount OldCoot. Have any kits for it?
