Yeah, there are a lot of differences. ScanGauge is a real time performance tool that can read codes. Innova is a diagnostic tool that queries the car's computer.

If I tow and drive, I would get the ScanGauge. If I were doing just repairs I would look further and see if the Innova is the right creature at the right price.

I need to compare the SG to the EDGE CTS...SG is over half the price of the CTS...most likely they do the same except the CTS just has full color screen and some bling which is nice but not necessary for what I want it for.

Hmmmm?

Here is a post I created about a couple other options to the Scangauge:

Scangauge II VS Ecoroute VS Ultragauge

I can't monitor exhaust gas temps on my 6.0L with ScanGauge. There's no X-gauge code for that. I'd need to run a probe into the manifold and use something else.

The ScanGaugeII can only report what the ECM monitors. It is low on bling but it works really well.

Some of the other products (from the links) look really good to. The one product appears to link without needing to route a cable; easier to install and neater. That probably means that it needs to be charged though?

Edge has both the Attitude monitor and CS monitor which are cheaper. The CTS is nice if you plan to add a rear view camera b/c it is large enough to give you a good picture. It also nice to have large dials for data output.

Probably the biggest difference between Edge or other diesel specific monitors and ScanGuage and other is that with Edge you can add physical probes instead of relying on the ECM.

I am not sure if you D'max has an EGT probe factory, most diesels do not. So for my Ford I needed to install an actual EGT probe. That meant I needed somehting like the Edge.

I was considering the analog gauge for EGT monitoring & then an OBD II device to monitor ECM data.

Think best route will be an Edge product and their EGT probe for a simpler package (DMAX do not have EGT probe built in).
Edge also allows for boost probe besides camera, etc...

I've been going back and forth on the CTS vs the SG lately. But once you get into the EGT probe and, in my case, a fuel pressure pyro, the cost gets close to $800 for the setup.

For $420 I can get the SG to monitor stuff already handled by the ECM and then just install Extra Gauges for the FP and EGT.

All in the what you are looking for and the money you want to spend. If I had the budget, I'd probably stick to the CTS as it has that appearance factor.

If you are just monitoring MPG, a SG would be the extent of what I'd buy.

SG monitors 4 user selected parameters reported by the ECM. It also has some other convenient items like miles to empty or gallons remaining. I use those to plan my fuel stops while towing.

Once you calibrate tank capacity, MPH the ScanGauge can be very accurate and much more accurate than the panel instruments.
