Should I add a slide topper?
Curious, my new 21ss Rockwood Roo doesn't have an awning over the slide out, would it be worth the price to buy one after market?

I had a slide out awning included with this trailer and love it. Keeps debris off of the slide-out so I don't worry too much when pulling it in and potentially damaging the seals.

Slide toppers are one of things that some members will say they won't do without one and others say they don't need it. It really comes down to price and how bad YOU think you need one. I've never had one on any of my TT's and never had an issue.

I don't have one and will not be getting one.
My slide is 10 feet long so I wouldn't be able to reach to the middle for care and cleaning.

We made the mistake of not having one installed before taking possession of our 23SS.
After 2 seasons of dealing with debris and sticky seals, we had one installed.
Love it and would have much cheaper to do it from the beginning.

About the only care required is cleaning it and that can be done while on the roof with a broom while cleaning the roof. We have a 11' slide and have no problems cleaning it usually 2x a yr. Wouldn't want a slide without the awning.

Any time you are drilling holes in the camper's roof or slides, it is better if the factory does it. If not, then it is better if you do it. At least you know it will be done right. Just use a good quality tape sealant like the double sided Eternabond tape.

I've been thinking of installing a slide topper just to keep it alittle cooler during the summer in my TT, but recently my wife & I were walking in the campground when I noticed a Redwood/ 5 slide 5th wheel, with the owner wiping on of the slides. We noticed no toppers on any of the slides, and I asked why. He said that he had a Mobile Suite with slide toppers, and wintered in Arizona. He said the wind made the slide topper over the bed slide vibrate, and it sang all night long, not getting any sleep. Claimed it happened several nights and the dust over the big slides were a big pain and couldn't be kept clean. Said he'd never again get toppers on any of his trailers again. So thats for what its worth category.

Had a slide topper installed after our first fall camping trip. Had difficulty clean all the leaves and debris off the top of the slide. With the slide topper we have no leaves and debris on the slide roof and it is cooler inside.
Would not have a trailer without a slide topper.

Pros and cons. My first TT had them. I saw them and wanted them because it kept me from having to climb up top to sweep off before retracting the slides. Second TT came with them and have enjoyed not having to climb up to sweep off, but the tops to the slides are nearly impossible to clean and they DO SING from time to time depending on the winds direction. When I get my third, I will for go the slide toppers. My 2 cents.

Slide Topper a must have
We have toppers on all three of our slides on our 40FB Salem. Besides keeping dirt, leaves etc off the BIGGEST advantage is the temperature difference. Our 12 foot and 6 foot slides have cupboards hanging inder the slide roof and they used to be like an oven when we opened the doors to take out some dishes,etc. With the slide cover, the temp inside the cupboard is no differant than the rest of the trailer. It really keeps the sun off and temp inside down.

Step ladder, 2 minutes with a mop, and I'm done. Stuff sticks to the slide toppers so . . . I'm in the camp of not seeing the benefit.
