Sink cover/cutting board

Hey y'all..... ok so we bought this new 2014 Work & Play 25 ULA.

It has a large double sink (60/40). It has a single LARGE sink cover/cutting board made out of that 1/4" thick white plastic. Its a bearn to store and there are times when we would like to have TWO covers and not one big one.

So my question is... has anyone cut their single cutting board in half (60/40)... and if so how did you cut it in half? What type of tool, saw, jig saw, dremel, etc. Did you round the inside corners or leave them sharp to fit together better?

Any help on this topic is greatly appreciated.

We're in the same boat as well but hadn't considered cutting the existing cover but now ya got me thinking. We had been looking for 2 existing FR sink covers to replace the large single cover. I'm sure they're out there.

I have yet to find a convenient place to store the large cover for travel.

I'd find a friend or contractor with a table saw and use that. Then either router or plane the edges to slightly round them.

Should be fine

Would put a veneer blade in a table saw and use a rip fence to guide and just rip it in two. Hand sand or file the sharp edge to remove the burrs.

Mtn Biker65...face I am tooo cheap to go buy ANOTHER set of cutting boards to fit the sinks. I just hate wasting what we already have.

Old Coot... thank for the suggestion. We do have a VERY OLD table saw... dont know if it still works. I will have to look into getting a veneer blade.

if you are talking about the solid surface sink covers that match your countertops , you can cut them with a table saw or skil saw or router and then just take a palm sander and smooth them up and yes i would roll the edges a little bit so it does not cut anyone .
Good luck it's not that hard to do

Here is a bit more on cutting: The solid surface countertop can be cut using the circular saw. It's highly recommended that the cutting tool is made from carbide and has a minimum of 40 teeth, to ensure a smooth and accurate edge. The saw should be slowly run along the straight edge to help avoid the build-up of heat. Excessive heat will scorch the surface of the countertop and ultimately ruin the appearance of it.

We cut ours in two. Love it, gives us a bit more counter space while allowing use of water. I used my portable circular saw.

Search on eBay for sink covers. I think you will be surprised.

Use the plastic sink cover as a pattern and cut a purchased wood cutting board to fit.

I have stored my sink cover and my stove cover(flat board, as a cover didn't come with stove) under the mattress on the bed. Also have stored them under the seat cushions on the couch. So far they ride well in either place

Yes, cut mine in half with my table saw, 60 tooth blade. Smoothed the edges and stained. Cut half circle "finger holes" in the middle with my Dewalt Scroll Saw. I didn't take any pictures, the unit is now in storage. Worked great !

The sink cover/cutting board is a two piece deal that we do not use.
Bought some cutting sheets at Target, light, easy to clean and when they get sliced up they can go in the recycle bin.

We haven't cut ours, but we don't use it that much because it covers both sides of the sink, thus eliminating the possibility of using the sink while the cover is in place. I'll have to look into cutting it. It also doesn't ride on the sink, so we store ours under the couch.

i had the same problem, but i didnt have any sink covers at all with our Lacrosse but i didnt want to cover both sinks with 1 cover either ..so i went a local restaurant/cooking supply store and bought a large plastic cutting board (aprox. $25.00) that was big enough to cover both sides and cut each one to fit each sink seperate..just made cardboard templates and transfered it to the cutting board..
oh just a tip.. i marked mine on the back "for cutting only" so the top would always look new

oh p.s. the sink company wanted $80.00 plus shipping and really coudnt tell me which ones i had, so i would have been taking a chance on it not fitting and sending it back...

When I was Goshen last summer I ask about the split sink covers. Brandon York chased down some info for my Primetime LaCrosse and this is what he came up with for me. Maybe Glenn has a line on other covers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, It was very nice to speak with you yesterday. Here is the gentlemen's number on the sink cover.

Glenn Bruce Cell# (574) 596-7755.
Part #
18-KC09ED-L = Left side Sink Cover $24.00 ea.
18-KC09ED-R = Right Side Sink Cover $20.00 ea.
Shipping = $15.00 to anywhere in the U.S.
__________________________________________________ _
Total w/ Shipping $59.00

Thank You,

Brandon York

Hey Jim, i found a very large cutting board at a commercial restaurant/cooking supply store place here in town. they had different colors like brown, black and off white i did mine in white because i couldnt find a solid piece that was big enough to cut 2 covers outta one piece..there was quite a few to choose from..i went back later and bought another one and cut it to go behind my stove to protect the wall from slpatter and i use it outside to cut on also...hope this helps..steve
