SiriusXM antenna install

Maybe this will help others.

Just installed a SiriusXM unit with my new Kenwood DDX374BT. I did not want to put holes through the roof. I placed the SiriusXM antenna in the roof air vent. It is under both the air vent and the MaxxAir cover.

It is held in place with the magnet antenna sitting on top of the metal brace of the air vent.

I used wall cable channel to hide the wiring.

The reception is fine from under these plastic covers.

Interesting. I've been procrastinating permanently installing mine. I'm thinking about mounting it to the TV antenna and running the cable along the same path. I'm just being lazy about having to pull the wire as I don't intend to open the ceiling. I like this idea.

I drilled a small hole through the floor in the cabinet below my tv/stereo and ran the antenna to the tongue of the trailer. Antenna is a magnet mount and has worked perfectly. I do not have a belly pan on my trailer, so it was easy to install and seal up the hole on the top and bottom sides.

I used small an XM radio antenna that they provide for your car (1"X1"). It has a very small diameter wire that I ran out through the window hinge.

I have installed several and another good location is on top of the fridge vent cover. You can then run wiring down the cavity.

Update
I installed Vortex fan units. I was not comfortable with only the magnet securing the antenna above the fan so I added Velcro and secured it to the top of the fan frame body.

Sorry, I did not think to take pics during the upgrade. The Vortex are an easy install because it is all done from the interior.

I updated this installation when I upgraded to LED lighting. Put the ceiling power run in the race between the light and the vent.

Also put the SiriusXM cable in the ceiling.

American ingenuity at it's best. I have had thoughts about adding Sirius/XM to the TT as we listen to music much more than watching TV. But, the pricing of Sirius/XM has gone up so much in the last three (3) years that I have to think more than twice about it, and I get a GM retiree discount.

Antenna wire run thru ceiling comes out at the ceiling light then into the surface mount cable chase on the wall (see pic in post #7).

I ran mine from the radio under the floor matting pulled the door step through a hole up to the roof. Glued the antenna to the roof. Click image for larger version

FYI: I'm in Canada and been an SXM sub for 6 years and have never paid more than $130CAD per year for both the car and streaming. They wanted $330 for the next year. If you are paying more than that, you are being hosed.

I ran the antenna wire out through the LP port and up to the roof at the rear end of the awning. The magnetic antenna is secured to a small round piece of galvanized steel that I siliconed to the roof. Antenna is removable in case of no reception issues.
