skylight shade

I have a small skylight in my kitchen area that is causing the trailer to heat up. To the point the 15k ac is having a hard time keeping up. I need to put a shade in it and was wondering what you folks do?

Here's how I did ours in the bathroom to keep the heat off the skylight and out of the trailer.

That's a good idea and nicely done but I was thinking of something I could open and close. The skylight would be nice when it's cold outside but in the summer Georgia heat it's a bit much. Thanks for the reply.

They make shades for skylights. I have 2 skylights in my Wildcat 5th wheel in the living room slide and it shades like a day/night shade you just pull over the skylight.

I have this and it works good. Easy to take down and blocks a lot of the heat and light. It's for the door but works great on the skylight in the bathroom. Amazon.com: Camco 45167 SunShield Reflective Door Window Cover: Automotive

Something like that would work. DW wants something like the pleated ones that slide across. She saw one in a camper while we were shopping for a new trailer but I can't seem to find one. Here's a pic of the skylight.

Check with Forester/Sunseeker if this is the right size. BCLEMMENS on those forums may be able to give you the size.

The beauty of OC's skylight mod is that it also protects the skylight from breakage and scratching by tree limbs or other obstructions.

I've decided that the old guy can make or fix anything or at least make you think he can. That's one of the perks of getting old.......experience.

Thank you. I'll check it out. Just got to make sure the war department is happy with it.

We had the pleated on in our last RV.
It did not keep the heat out.
We ended up putting some reflectix on top of the shade to block the heat.

I got some 2" foam from Hobby Lobby and glued (spray contact cement) one of those reflective window shades you put in the windshield of your car to it. I then cut it to size on a band saw leaving it 1/2" oversized in length and width. I just push it up in the skylight to block light/heat. The oversized foam keeps it in place.
