Slide out Awning covers YES or NO

Looking for some advice when we go to pick up our RV to add the awning covers or not?? What do you think? The trailer will mostly be at our site for the year minus 2 trips out of town?? Also do you pull your awnings in when you are not there or do you leave them out all the time?

I would not own a camper without slide "toppers" and think they are worth the money. Others have different opinions and I am sure you will hear about them.

If you are going to be away from the camper any extended length of time; pull in the slides. Storms with strong winds can come up without notice.

I have been in tornado weather with the slides out with no damage; but we were hustled out of the camper to the shelter with no time to run them in.

slide awnings

I too will never own another camper without slide "toppers". Keeps alot of things off the slides and I think they look great also. I think I added four slide toppers to my Sandpiper 365 saq for around $700.00 from Forest river. I figured the camper had every other option why not add the slide awnings.

My last M/H at about 8 years old had the slide topper leaking through onto the the slide. Leak was due to rotten threads, about 8 seconds later we had rain water drooling into the living area onto the sofa! The slide rubber seal on top was a joke when it came to sealing water.

So it was a good addition until it rotted due to age?
Sounds like it did its job and kept water out of your bad slide seal.

Thats right, I sealed the seam with tube silicon, lasted another two years and traded for a FR Georgetown!

I was going to get a topper - but - the slide is 10' 4" long. I would not be able to reach half way in to clean the slide itself or to clean and treat the rubber seal 2x a year.
Maybe I'll get one someday, but I really doubt it.

made the mistake by not getting one in the first place.
ended up getting one later at a much higher cost.
still worth it.

I bought a couple of swifter mops and keep them in the camper. The extra poles will get in those hard to reach places to:

1) put on seal spray (Spray the pad then run it over the surfaces)
2) Clean the awnings (I use Westley's Bleach White)
3) Mop the linoleum
4) Run around the camper chasing the DW. (oops)
