They are vinyl I believe but in our MH they aren't close enough to the burners to get warm. In fact there is a original small plexiglass type divider between the top of the stove and the sofa arm closer to a burner than the backsplash. Doesn't get warm at all.

I just recently did mine! because the top row was just a bit more than half a tile, I used the leftover halves to do the bathroom! Someone I was showing the camper to (who had no idea what it should look like, nor that I did the tiles recently) immediately commented how she liked the backsplash!
