Solar Black Tank Vent
Anybody tried one of these? I'm wondering about the "it starts and stops automatically" statement. Wouldn't this thing always run with enough light? You wouldn't want it running when stored . . .

i agree with the light it works and no light it is off
wonders if it would be running with a full moon especially if you on an open campsite with no trees.

If it ran a lot. I would think that it would quickly wear out.

If it is made in China, it won't last very long and probably a waste of money. Sounds like a great idea until you end up replacing it every year.

In your opinion what do you think will go bad? The fan?
if so I am thinking upgrade the fan with a computer fan.
I added a computer fan to my tt when I had it for airing out the cavity where the converter went .
I cut a hole in the cabinet wall and mounted it to pull air from cavity.
Then added a heat sink inline. You wouldn't believe the hot air that came out.
The computer fan would start about five minutes ahead of converter fan.

If you look on the roof of your trailer, you should see a vent for your black tank. It needs to be vented for the gases that build up while decomposition is in progress.

question was more of why u would want a fan on it? what would be the advantage over natural ventilation?
when u dump, u will actually be pulling against the air trying to go in. i don't see a problem with it, just no advantage.
now put that fan on one of the addict vents and u have something.

Jim has got something there........ jim is implying that how would the fan draw any air when the system is closed or in other words where is the fan going to draw from ? Only way I see it is the fan can only draw when toilet is flushed. It would be like trying to suck air from a plastic pop bottle and until you put a hole in the bottom to draw air it virtually impossible .
correct ?

that is what i'm seeing. there wouldn't be an air flow except while the flush valve was open. well there would be a flow after the sewer is dumped and before the sewer drain valve is closed.
don't see it as doing any harm just don't see the benefit. something like this could be put to better use.

I am guessing the idea is to always have a "slight" vacuum (lower pressure) in the black tank so when you flush any gasses that have collected under the toilet seal will be sucked down and not allowed to enter the camper.
Not sure how effective it might be; how long it would last; or even if it would work as advertised. Save your money for beer.

Good point. Never thought about that. When Jim said closed system I thought he mention no vent either. My mistake.

if u've already got one, why not try it on one of those roof vents. there are several jacks up there that just ventilate the addict. i believe they are the same size as the sewer jack. may try putting it on one and see if it helps ur a/c next summer (may want that heat this winter).
benefit of it being solar is that it would be on when u need it the most.
i don't know how much space there is up there that isn't filled with insulation. there should be some.
if the space is full of insulation, it could be counter productive to force ventilation...u wouldn't want to disturb the dead air space.
