Step light mod

We didn't like the puny step light on our 5er so I added led ribbon lights on a photoelectric switch. Tied into the factory light and mounted the eye on the rh side between the step support and the cutout and the controller in the top of the cutout. Results are steps that can be seen at night and automatically turn on/off. The pictures are with the lights on full bright and are a little too much. Will have to play with the intensity.

Also added the X braces in the back of the steps to stop the racking.

Now you will attract all the crickets and other bugs with that white light.

dunnc, that is very cool! This is what I need to do too. I'd like to know if the sensor is fast enough to energizewhen your coming out of your trailer? My trailer didn't come with a step light. I'd have to wire one in. The deck light doesn't cast light far enough to light up the stairs. If you could take a picture or two of the light ,sensor and wiring I would really appreciate it. Thank you for posting this

The lights come on when it gets dark and stay on until it gets light. It is a light sensitive electric eye control.

Please let us know how the 12volt motion sensor works out. I'll watch this space.

Be kinda difficult to detect motion going up the steps as well as opening the door and coming down them. No more power that is needed and due to my incompetence in figuring out where to put a motion sensor to work in both siturations is why I with with the dusk to dawn electric eye. I can still turn it off from the inside as it is wired to the factory useless step light.
