Cut a length of led 5050 lights and mounted them in the cutout for the steps and wired them into the awning lights on a dusk to dawn switch.

I use a battery powered motion detector light that has a magnet on the back.
Our steps are close to the rear of the TT so I stick it on the front of the rear bumper.
2 or more could be stuck on the stairs or frame.

Do they need a transformer? Where can I purchase white ones? My trailer came with white led lights on the awning

Maybe post a "wanted ad" in the classifieds to see of anyone has cutoff scraps.

True, It will be awhile before I can crawl under the trailer. Still recovering from my hip surgery. I am just thinking of mods to do to it. I got your step support sitting here still in the box.

Twisty, where did you find a battery powered motion detector light that has a magnet on the back?

My thoughts exactly . I use a square LED light at work that fits in my pocket. It has a fold in hook and a magnet on the back. I don't even carry a traditional flashlight any more.
I would like get the one or two of the style mentioned here for camping.

I have some cut off strips that would fit for your steps and I have some ends to to add. There are 4 leads that come off for the colors you just use 1 for the positive and the other 3 go to ground (if I remember right) You would have to test which is the white comb. If you send me a PM with your address I will be glad to mail it to you then you can try it. I used the step light for the 12V but added a day night sensor also that OC gave me. Otherwise just use your switch.

Hi,
I purchased a 4 strip set in blue, (1 above top step, 1 on middle step) hard wired to 12 volt and installed a switch.
I purchased mine from Ebay for $10.00. This is a link to many colors including white. Make sure you buy the waterproof set.

While the set comes with a controller, it is only needed to use the remote and access the "functions" (like dimming and flashing).
If you only want a single solid color (RED, BLUE, YELLOW, or WHITE) just ground the appropriate lead(s) or any two for complimentary colors.
All LEDs grounded is all "on" and gives white.
You can also get Green (blue-yellow), Orange (red-yellow), or purple (blue-red), by grounding the correct two color wires.
MAKE SURE you identify the positive connection!
There is a warning about applying voltage to the ground leads.
