step mod
Got tired of spongy steps decided to do a little mod.
When we step on the steps the floor flexes and moves down and the wall moves, I looked underneath and was surprised to see that the steps are only attached to the floor which is only lite ply and foam, no lateral support so I made a couple of angle supports that will use the frame but not bolted to the frame.

It's not how they are stuck together. It's what they are doing that is to be commented on.

I like the idea and I need to see how I can make something like that for my steps. I don't weld, so I need to think of a way to do what is being done in a much simpler way. (to me... )

He did say it should help. But you never know - the Op could be a new hobby welder and isn't sure what went wrong. Or- the exact opposite- was trying to bang it out quick and dirty.
(I, for one, have no clue what I'm looking at from a weld perspective- but, the idea makes a lot of sense.

I looked at doing it and it is still on my mod list; but I am having trouble finding a Saturn jack. The jack has to be short and most that I have found so far are too tall.
I like the strengthener as I have been looking at the flex when a person is on the steps and it is the floor that moves the most.

What can I say in my defence, it's hard to do oxy/acet and not get them to go together while molten, if I new there would be a test I might have been fussier about the cosmetics by the way they do work fine and are still together.

Oxy-acetylene welding is an art and takes practice. I would rather oa weld than mig, but oa welding heats up a much larger area than mig or arc and is not nearly as fast.

I re-examined the pics Herk, and those will not work on our trailers due to ours being in a cutout just barely wide enough for the steps and the bolts are on the inside of the steps that come down from the floor.

I certainly hope I didn't come across rude- all welding is a terrifying art to me. I'm a sissy and don't even like grinders! If it does what you need- you're all good!
