Storm door mod
Has anyone added plexiglass to his screen doors to turn them into storm doors? Any pics of the project?

Did mine also....works great. I made separate pieces for the door so I can remove what I want if needed.

I've done it on 3 of mine so far and love it. I first cut a template from cardboard for the 2 pieces, top and bottom. Then I removed the screen completely. On my screen doors there was enough of a lip/cavity on each side so that the glass would almost stay in place without screws, but not good enough to withstand the slamming and movement. So, I predrilled holes and used very small (I think very short #6) stainless sheet metal screws through the glass and into the door frame to secure in place. Also, get a very good jigsaw blade for plastic from Lowes, Bosch makes some really good ones. The hardest part is trying not to scratch the glass while working with it.

On our 2012 378XL I had a local glass company do our and is was 120 bucks and I had them use the dark plexi glass so you can see in but we can see out. They installed it and then used the rubber around the entire door so it holds it secure and tight. Had the top/bottom and the middle done for that price. I priced the stuff at lowes and figured it would be cheaper going the route I did. Since we full time didn't have all the tools to do it myself. I'll try to post some pictures once the rain here stops (Florida).

Look forward to the photos. Best idea I have heard of for the screen door.

I used Lexan from Lowes. Get your measures right and you can do it in one sheet. About $65 and Lowes does the cuts for free. Pieces slip into the grooves around the screen. I used a couple of velco strips to make them tighter but honestly I think the Velcro wasn't needed.

This is a pic of the plexiglass I added on our 2014 Jayco bunkhouse screen door.......we traded in mid-October for our 2014 Silverback 33RL and it came with a screen door with clear vinyl panels already mounted on the door....the panels on the Silverback are designed to go on and off much easier.

So, is it necessary to remove the screen? Can the plexi be placed over? I have a Sandpiper 376BHOK, and would love to do this to our door!

The glass could be applied using magnetic tape. This would make it easy to remove and clean.

The lexan can be thin and with some close cutting, fit in the inside groove next to the screen. 3 pieces, top, bottom, and opening next to slide. Easy to do. Measure and use a straight edge. With a razor knife, score one side and simply snap. Sand the edge and pop into position. I used clear mirror mounts with small sheet metal screws. To make the rounded top of the door, I used a large coffee can to score the radius.

I did this in our last 5th wheel but haven't done it in the TH yet. I would remove the screen for easy cleaning and clear view. I installed ours in the groove and then used silicone to seal it up. That way even with the door open in the rain I didn't have to worry about water. I had used clear plexiglass last time but am gonna go with tinted this time.
