Surveyor SV294 Sink Upgrade

My wife hated our stock 2 bay sink. It was hard to wash the pots and pans in that small 2 bowl sink while camping.

So, we found a single bay sink 19x25x6 on clearance at Home Depot (changing SKUs and text color on the box puts them on clearance I guess)...

Yanked the old sink, trimmed the hole to fit the new sink, set the new sink in.

Not a bad upgrade for $24?

The only bad thing is you just cost me some work this weekend. She saw this thread, called me and now I have to work. Great looking sink idea!! I will look at doing this on Saturday. Thanks for the pics.

Great looking sink!! My DH won't want to make this swap; he'll say the sink is just fine the way it is. Guess I'll wait a year or so before I spring this on him.

Do you remember the SKU#? I was on the HD website and didn't see one that size. Everything I saw was 22" wide.

Sorry the new box (and old sink) went in the trash earlier this week.

This one is the same make and gauge Elkay Neptune Top-Mount 25 in. x 22 in. Single Bowl Kitchen Sink - HD114625 at The Home Depot just not on clearance for $24...

I had to enlarge the existing hole by close to an inch on 3 sides and about 2+ inches on the back edge. That gave me the rough hole size to fit the new sink in.

I don't have my posty note with the dimensions of my original sink... but the rough math would suggest that the new sink size was likely 22x25x7 and the original sink would be 19x25x6. The overhang lip of both sinks are different.

I have slept since then...

Hopefully that helps you. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Here are the issues I'd have, after I thout about it for awhile. The new sink wouldn't be flush-mounted like the original sink. The sink cover would be useless, and you'd lose the ability to rinse your dishes with a single bowl sink. I'm sure my DH could make a wood sink cover, since he's a woodworker, but the sink would have to be a drop-in model, and the cover wouldn't be flush. Some things to think about. I'll start looking around for a slightly larger sink that won't break the bank and just get used to not having a sink cover. Not the worst thing I guess. Thanks for sharing this.

I was going to comment that I keep my sink covers in the cabinet since I don't use them. But then a light bulb came on that I could use the larger one by leaning it against the wall next to the stove when cooking bacon. Even with cooking on a low flame this would give the wallpaper a little more protection when cooking greasy food.

We are going to put up a piece of stainless or aluminum on the cabinet next to the stove for this very same reason.

We dry camp mostly so DW using a small rubber tub to wash dishes and then dumps the dirty water in the toilet. That keeps from adding to the gray tank. Usually dish water comes from waiting for the hot water in the shower that goes into a bucket. When dry camping for 7 days even 40 gallons of water can go quick if your not frugal.

Also the current sink is a corner sink and even the big side is barely big enough for a 6" skillet.
