Theft concern for plug-in 30A power cord??

Most power cords are taken for the $5 in copper and not the $150 cord. That is why so many new homes have the wire stripped out before the drywall goes on.

Have any of y'all ever sold scrap? Been to a scrap yard? There are always druggies there selling $5 worth of copper. Thieves will take anything. They have no problem slicing thru an rv plug with a steak knife, and chances are, they will not even get a tingle when doing so. If you are paranoid of it spoiling your trip, buy a spare cord and keep it somewhere secure for a backup if your primary was stolen.
And no, they do not care about the ends being on the cord and they do not take the time to strip the insulation. They will either sell it at a reduced rate with insulation on it, or throw it in a fire to burn the insulation off and get #2 copper price for it. I always have spare wiring around my shop, once I get enough to make it worth my effort, I make a small fire and throw all of it on there to burn insulation off. A smallish bucket of burned copper can easily fetch over $100 with current values.
They even occasionally climb the utility poles and cut down live high voltage lines to sell for scrap, so nothing you can rig up will deter any determined thief!

Cutting the notch is a good idea, especially if you camp on concrete. And yes I suppose you could damage a cord by clamping on it, but have you seen the clamps inside the plugs or outlet boxes or breaker boxes??

If we are going to live in fear of thieves with wire cutters, what's next? Tire irons to steal your tires, cordless drills to steal your siding and windows? Wrenches to take your leafsprings, screwdrivers to steal your lights. How about a big rock to smash the window in your TV and drive off with your whole rig...

Cut a notch in both boards or drill a hole so you can run cable between and no damage to cord and still does the job!!

wow! I guess I'll keep camping up here in Northern Ontario. Never lock anything (kind of hard in a TT and dining tent lol) and don't even bother to put any of it out of sight. Did have a fellow camper bring back our water inflatables that got blown into their site thou!

I had the same concern after reading an article about over a dozen cords stolen in one night at an unattended camping area. So we're thinking of investing in this:

If possible place your cord out before the final positioning of your trailer and park your tires on the cord.
