Tinted plexi-glass on the screen door

I finally found a day that wasn't raining and got the new tinted acrylic (plexi-glass) installed on my screen door. I actually did this mod on my first travel trailer in 2008 and we knew then that we could never be without it on a camper, haha.

Picked this up at Home Depot for about $50.00. I could not find this stuff in my own home town, had to get it at an HD that was over 2 hours away, of course, we were visiting some of my family for the holidays so it wasn't out of my way, LOL.

I pulled all of the screen and spline out of the door and simply slid the plexi-glass into one of the existing grooves in the door. I'll probably go back and get some .125 thick screen spline to use like a weatherstrip in the groove with the plexi-glass as the plexi-glass is not as thick enough to "fill" the grooves, plus it'll keep that stuff from rattling so much.

I did the same to our this summer but used clear instead. Also I used clear silicon caulk to fill the gaps so it will not rattle.

It's awefully hard to see this with so much glare and reflection, but this first pic is taken looking at the backside or inside of the door. Looking up the edge from the bottom corner you can see how the plexi is "wavy" and loose fitting in the channel of the screen door.

Next, here is a pic after I added the window screen spline on the frontside or outside of the door, in the channel with the plexi and it really fit nice and snug

It was .093 thick, the only size available in tinted at the time. I bought two pieces that were each 30" x 36". One piece for the top half, the other for the rest of the door.

I've never applied window tint to anything but I had considered doing it for this project until I finally found the tinted Plexiglas.

I saw another version of that with heavy duty Velcro... The screens were left on and the plexiglass placed on the outside between the screen and main door. The main purpose of the Velcro was so on those nice cool breezy days you could remove the plexiglass but still keep the dust out....I will send pictures of my completed mod.

Lot

I see you have your unit on a deeded lot also...ours is located in North Georgia at Talking Rock Creek RV Resort..Our 30'FIS Sunnybrook Travel Trialer lives there and we to have it set up with a 30' x 40' concrete pad and driveway with a 30' x 40' Awning over the entire unit. Our deck is located behind the coach along with a untility shelter for garden tools etc; We have another lot just behind this one where we park our Crusader 270RET 5th Wheel Coach...oh yes, I have done both screen doors with Lexan clear...really enjoy not being closed up with the ac or hear going.

I used static cling tint I my skylight over the shower and had no problems with bubbling. This might be because it is hard to make a perfect or tight seal with the material. But I did some searching on the net, you can't tint plexiglass because it is porous.
