Tonneau covers

I would like to get opinions on roll up bed covers. I am thinking about the hard surface aluminum ones. Some have the vinyl covered aluminum ( how long could that last ?) Anyway I pull a tt now but may upgrade to a fiver someday so I really don't want to invest in a reg pick up topper. I am thinking the hard surface rollup tonneau cover would provide great security then if I decide to pull a fiver I just roll it up. So if anyone has one I would appreciate your opinion on the brand ant type that you have and how it has worked out for you? Thanks

I have an Extang tri fold hard cover on our TV. No clearance problems with a 5th wheel when folded up.

I use Fold-A-Cover and have no issues with it. As a plus it locks the tail gate too so my truck bed is pretty secure, and water resistant.

My dad has a BAKflip F1 and loves it. I just have the cheapo roll up low profile Tonnopro one, but it works great for me.

BAKflip F1 here too, no problems clearing the 5th. BTW had the fold a cover, two of them, both leaked after about a year the rubber seals between the panels split. BAKflip is still dry after 18 months.

I installed a Backflip CS a few months ago. It's great. It's one of the very few tonneau covers that allows for above the bed crossbars. The bars come off fairly easy too when not needed.

I've never driven with the cover up against the cab yet though, as mentioned above. I don't trust the locking bars that are supposed to hold it up, seems to me there would still be quite a bit of wind pressure on the cover flowing around the cab. Others have done it though, I haven't tried.

I have a fiberglass 6 1/2 foot one that i am willing to let go cheap. I now have a roll up one that has the bar every so often. Just remember that a tonneau cover is not as secure as you think it is. A knife and 2 seconds and they will have what they want

Check out the BAKFlip, BAK Roll-X or RollBAK covers. They are aluminum hard folding/rolling Tonneau covers that can even store things on top of them, up to 400lbs evenly distributed on the HD series. Wish I had the money for these ones, much better IMO. Cheapest one is $790 on AutoAnything.com.

I have the BakFlip G2 on mine. It has 4 folding sections and folds up against the windshield to give you access to almost all bed. I fold up 3 times with the 5th wheel connected and it does fine. I have also driven with it folded up to the windshield, and had no problems. It works fine. I had the Xtang tri-fold on my 8' bed and it worked great as well. Still trying to sell it if anyone needs one.

Had to switch from a hard cover to a soft one when I went to the 5th wheel. While the stacked covers cleared the camper just fine when straight, in turns on slightly unlevel ground, the front of the camper hit the stack.

Our new 5er came with the Reese Revolution/Sidewinder hitch which permitted me to use a modified Undercover hard tonneau both while towing and not towing. I bought it on Craigslist and it is just like my good one which is now stored as I am leaving the modified one on full time.

We have the Extang roll up. When we get to the campground we unroll it and cover the bed back up. Works great but as someone else mentioned, 2 sec and sharp pocket knife is all it takes. We never store valuables in it. Extang has also given us a great warrenty. I believe 10 years. Couple months ago I broke a snap on it. (my fault! Too much wine involved!) Called extang to see if I could order replacement snaps and they sent a kit for free to replace the one...

I have the Pace Edwards Jack Rabbit roll up with the vinyl and it has been on the truck from day one (7 years now) and the vinyl still looks good. The Reese Pro Series 15000 hitch (with the flat handle) fits just under the cover when it's rolled out in the closed position. What's also nice about the roll up cover is that I can still close and look the cover within 10" of the pin when towing and still clear the cover when turning.

Me too. I have the Pace Edwards Jack Rabbit rolling tonneau. I like having the ability to lock the tonneau in multiple positions, plus I never lose visibility through the back window due to some flip style covers that fold up against your window. The Pace Edwards is also very flat, and does a great job keeping the truck bed secure and dry. I was able to install kayak racks and rails on top of the tonneau because it fit so flat across the bed rails.

on the new truck i went a total diff direction than all my older ones....Bakflip f1/w bakbox (the best most versatile cover i ever owned), and instead of the spray liner that always seemed to fade in a year, and get scraped off when i slid heavy cargo in the bed, i went with a bedrug. Thus far the best combo i have used in a truck to date!

i have an el cheapo vinyl roll up made by truxedo. It was the cheapest one I could find. It fasteneds to the rails with velcro and easy on ,easy off. No water leakage after 2 years. And it looks pretty good.

i have sold a lot of the fabric ones over the last 20 years, i have honestly never had any say they had theirs cut into and stuff stolen.i think the fabric roll up are great for the price.
