Top mods to your rig?

For those of you who have done lots of modifications and added extras that are not normally included at travel trailer purchase...what are your top 3 or 4 mods you have done and are there any you regret doing?

My favorites are both simple and fairly common.

Battery Disconnect and two 6 volt (T145) batteries.
LED bulbs.
Maxxair II vent covers.
Oxygenics shower head.

Nothing big. My next two mods will be replacing the privacy plexiglass in the door with clear plexiglass and swapping out the thermostat for a digital model.

  • Pull/push knob battery disconnect
  • Fantastic Fan
  • Bedroom window awning
  • Flip-flopping one cabinet door in a lower cabinet for easier access in the kitchen instead of the bedroom. This is where I hid the kitchen trash can.

Sorry, but I would be hard pressed to name 4. I have probably done over a hundred mods to the camper in just 3 years from the rear rack for the Blue Boy to the Brandy New awning remote. So here are my top 5

My favorite without a doubt is the roof antenna mod. Just cooler than all get out and one of the most used mods on the camper when we camp in a place without Cable. AntennaWeb - Home will give you the bearings; distance; and TV stations in your reach.

The electrical system upgrade(s) are next. There were several mods over the years all intended to increase dry camping battery longevity. From Dual Batteries to replacing all interior lighting with LEDs.

Rebuilding the Toilet, while not as "sexy" as some, makes life in the "Back House" livable with the addition of the pressure sprayer. The water wand makes cleanup a snap.

The Eternabond Roof Seal and Horst Probe Black and Gray tank upgrades would round out the top 5.

Oh, Regrets - YES - ALL OF THEM! How am I ever going to replace my camper when this one is darn near perfect?

Here's my top five mods, in each or three areas; operational, comfort, & storage.

Operational:
1) Adding solar, all led lights, & 2000w inverter
2) PressurePro Tire Pressure Monitoring System
3) Toilet Spray flush hose.
4) Install Red Devil Built-in Vacuum Cleaner System
5) Tornado Flush in black tank

Comfort:
1) Over-bed Casablanca-style ceiling fan
2) Remove factory XM Radio, install mount for my Serius (before they were one company!)
3) Install wine bottle rack and wine glass rack.
4) Max-Air Vents - to keep roof vents open, with no rain coming in.
5) Replace analog t-stat for heat/AC with digital t-stat.

Storage:
1) Install truck-bed aluminum diamond plate tool box to replace battery box.
2) Open under-bed area into large compartment with multiple access'.
3) Convert two hanging closets to shelved closets.
4) Convert several "dummy" cabinet doors to hinged latched doors, providing access to additional storage areas.
5) Shoe storage rack in bathroom.

Herk - Any details on your AntennaWeb project anywhere? Which model did you install? Any particular challenges in completing the project?

One thing that I have to be careful of with mine, is that if I leave the antenna up during the day (when we are least likely to be using it), it can cast a shadow on a solar pane;. A blockage of only 5% of the panel can actually cause a 33% decrease in panel efficiency.

Which means at night, I need to manually re-set it to tune channels back in.

I have done so many Mod's that are useful that when I am ready to upgrade how can I justify the camper upgrade cause I know I would have to do them over again.

1 - Curved shower rod - kept the shower curtain from sticking to me.
2 - Tornado Tank Flusher - doesnt make the swooshing sound like when first installed but still functional as long as you are at a clean out station you can hook a hose to.
3 - Battery Disconnect - was a single battery disconnect but going to be upgrading this to a 1 - 2 or both battery since I have upgraded to two 12 volt batteries.
4 - Locking Water Door - Added this mod cause I wanted to make sure my fresh water stayed fresh and not contaminated by someone else other then me.
5 - Added the Wingman - not that I watch enough TV but have noticed a diffrence in the signal after adding the Wingman
6 - Smart Light 1000 - replaced the original scare light with a LED / Motion Sensor Smart Light - Love this Mod the Best
7 - Max Air II Vent Cover's - Allows me to keep my Vent's open all the time rain or shine - Love this Mod as well

Oh did you pull up the doc file at the bottom?
It has the protractor mod to the hand crank inside the camper.
