Tow Vehicle Mod - Pioneer AppRadio2
just replaced the 2004 factory 6 cd stereo with no external usb/audio connectivity in my F150 with Pioneer's AppRadio2. appradio2 is a 7.1 inch touch screen enabled unit that runs both iphone and droid apps to provide music, data, video and gps services. it includes bluetooth connectivity for pairing up to three phones.
i also added a back up camera which will definitely reduce the in/outs while hitching. Located the camera in the base of the lift gate handle. no loss of functionality of the handle and very nice viewing angle of my bumper, hitch and what's behind me.
Before/after pics follow.
the iphone dock runs through an enlarged gap at the top of the inner portion of the ash try. i can tuck the cable along with my third gen ipod nano away when not in use and even close the tray completely, USB connection is located in the upper left corner of the passenger foot area.
many free mapping apps are available. when desired, i can connect my iphone to the dock and run the mapping software, pandora etc.
i don't have an unlimited data plan so i will most likely use my nano for my music library and pair my phone for bluetooth hands free calling.
the iphone app that i ordered but didnt get installed yet is dash command. it's an iphone driven obdII scanning app that will present almost any diagnostic output available for your vehicle. it leverages a obdII adapter with a wifi connection to the iphone which in turn is connected to the appradio with the dock connector and then presents your info on the 7 inch display.
everything works as desired and it ended being at a much lower cost than a traditional multimedia/navigation head unit.
