Towel drying rack

This may have been done before, but I was looking for a drying rack to mount and CW had some for $36+. I was at home depot this morning and came up with this. Cost about $6-7. I made it so the base is on the bumper and pulls apart for storage. 1/2" schedule 40 PVC, assorted fittings left over paint and clothes line. No rust or permanent mounting and no drilling. Was tired of drying things off the awning.

That looks like a nice easy thing to assemble, use and then disassemble when done.

One question - some CG's prohibit the drying of laundry outside - you think this would cause some problems with the neighbors?

I guess we will see how the CGs react. I'm not going be doing laundry or hanging drawers up. This is for beach towels instead of draping them on our awning frame. Shouldn't be offensive to other campers.

Neat looking mod...might try making one. My neighbor has a Cameo 5'r. He made me a towel drying rack that would fit onto the ladder. He brought it over the other day to give it to me then realized I didn't have a ladder. I didn't want to go install a ladder so it would attach so I told him, I appreciated it but maybe one of his friends might be able to use it.

Ok here's the list of what I used (already had PVC primer and glue):

1/2" schedule 40 10' length
8- 1/2" 90* elbows
2- 1/2" T fittings
2- 1/2" 45* elbows

To fit the 4" box bumper I cut 4 pieces of PVC 3 1/2 inches for each mount(8 total 3 1/2" pieces.).




(As you can see in the pic the 3 90* elbows and the t fitting fit over the bumper and the uprights have the 45* elbows that join to the bumper mount.)

Then I cut 2- 1 1/2" pieces to join the uprights to the bumper mount with the t fitting and 45* elbow.

Uprights are 29 1/2" each, and the top cross brace is 30" joined by the 90* fittings. Very easy to make or adjust measurements but I used the entire 10' section. I glued all fittings except the 45* to the t fitting so I can disassemble the rack and store it inside. The reason i painted it black was because I was messy with the purple primer and that on the white looked like junk. So I had left over paint and wallah. To drill the holes for the clothes line I taped the 2 uprights together( my clamps would securely hold the 2 pipes) and used a small bit for a pilot then followed up with a 1/4" bit. It took about 25 minutes to make. I didn't have any official drawings or design. It was winging it off the top of my head off similar racks. So if this thing fails miserably down the road I'm not out a lot of time or money.

Same here, we had towels draped over the awning and rear bumper and my DW commented on a neighbors solution. So I figured to try. If it doesn't work, then I will figure out Something else.

Lol what ever amount you want to send. The only thing I don't know is a weight limit. It will hold beach towels but if there are ways to beef it up let me know.

Excellent idea. We are going camping for the 4th of July week, I will be buying the parts and making one of these during a slow time at the campground. Question for all, would it be a good or bad idea to make the rest of the cross bars out of PVC instead of laundry cord? I know clothes pins won't work on them, but we never use those anyway.

I don't see why you couldn't. I just had some extra line in the garage and used that.
