Trailer Backup Lights - Again

So I know backup\auxiliary lights have been brought up many times and I used the search to try and find what I'm after but didn't come up with anything.
I am wondering if anyone has taken a light like this:



and flush mounted them into the back bumper for some extra light? I think it would give it a nice custom look and be functional as well.

Looks like they are cheap enough it might be worth trying. I just figured there was some people on here that might have attempted this before. I'm thinking OC should have something like this fabbed up somewhere

This is what I used for back-up lights. put two on the back and one on each side. 2x 3W LED Eagle Eye White Light Daytime Running DRL Tail Backup Light Car Motor - US$3.29.

That particular light is from etrailer.com (they had the best pic available) and there is a link to them under the picture. They can be had cheaper if you so desired from eBay, but you never know what you will get from there.

No more often than we need backup lights on our trailer, I just got 4 of these from Harbor Freight (on sale at $2.99 ea) and stick them on the back bumper if I'm trying to back unto a site after dark. They have a magnet on the back - not strong, but strong enough to stay on the bumper as you slowly back into a space.

We have 4 of these stuck to the vent over the stove top. Great little lights and we know where they are at when ever we need them! I will have to remember the bumper trick!

We must have different bumpers, mine is not the most stout thing in the world. Im betting a sawzall would make quick work of it.

We've got a few of those strategically placed, but not near as "custom" as flushing them into the bumper
It's on my to do list that isnt very important right now but will likely give it a whirl at some point this summer.

Guys I know some of you are not going to want to spend the money because like me I try to not have to back in after dark but sometimes when things go wrong you might get there late. If you want some back up lights check these out that I put on our heavy haul truck.

The one on the back of the semi are....Blue Water LED

The ones on the boat are....Navigator® Heavy Duty LED Work Lamp 4-1/4 in. x 4-1/4 in. Square Clear Lens, 16 Watt - Tractor Supply Co.

I put a pair of these 10W LED flood lights on the back of my F150 and they work great.

They are 800 lumens compared to the 3400 lumens on the back of transamz9's truck, but they're plenty bright enough for my needs. If you need to project to 50' like transamz9 does for his application I'd look into his supplier but that could really irritate your neighbours in a campground at night.

Yeah, you don't need the ones like what I have on the truck. LOL! You say 50'? The picture is really a bad example of what those lights do. In a wide open field, they will light 200' up like daylight. You wouldn't be liked very well in the campground.

The ones I have on the boat work great and they are only 500 lumens. I'm sure the one you have work great also.

I am intrigued by those Cree LED lights, I might need to get one to play with. One of the main reasons I wanted to flush it in the bumper (other than the "different" factor) is that the grill is mounted on the back bumper. They way it is mounted and the way it swings around to use it you would not be able to mount anything to the top of the bumber on the door side of the camper or it would keep the arm from swinging around.

You could mount them closer to the middle of the bumper (and above the bumper) and just aim them a bit to the outside or you could mount them on the underside at each end. I don't think the stock brackets wouldn't allow you to mount them directly on the vertical surface of the back of the bumper, but if they did they'd stick out about 4", so that's probably not an option.

The spread angle of the light is probably something like 100 degrees. I can take some pictures if you're interested in seeing what they look like.

I was originally looking at Rigid Industries' Dually flood lights when I found the CREE lights on eBay for about 1/3 the cost. The major difference is that the eBay lights don't come with a wiring harness. If money is no object, you could look at these Rigid flush mount backup lights or something similar on eBay.
