Traveling with battery

I recently purchased 4 6v golf cart batteries for when traveling without full hookups; however there is no room on the tongue and don't want the additional tongue weight. We only dry camp about two times a year in state parks. Would it be possible to travel using my group 24 battery that came with the trailer and the golf cart batteries in the trailer and then switch them when we get set up? Although this is not the most convenient option it will only be required a couple times a year when dry camping. Would there be any issues with this?

If you only have a single Group 24 battery, I assume you also have a single battery box. You stated there is no room on the tongue for more.

You are going to need two 6V golf cart batteries hooked up in series to give you 12V. Are you going to set them on the ground and hook them up?

I went with two 6V golf cart batteries on the tongue to get dry camping for 4 nights in Colorado with night temps in the high 20s/low 30s. The heater fan (4 amps) is the main load on my little A-frame. I added about 70lbs tongue weight with my setup (pics below).

I saw your other post after answering this one. I am still not sure what you are trying to do, besides having 4 6V batteries for dry camping. You can't put them on the tongue, and you have no ready-made place to put them.

Some suggestions and hints based on my experiences:
- as was stated in the other thread, normal wet cell lead acid batteries must be in a space ventilated to the outside, not to living quarters.
- are you looking to permanently install and wire these batteries? Paralleling battery banks requires fairly equal batteries to avoid emptying charge into each other (don't ask me how I learned this). You will not be able to easily parallel the group 24 12V with either 6V bank. You will need bank selection switches for a permanent install.
- a temporary hook-up to a battery bank with battery boxes on the ground is feasible. But where/how to transport still remains an issue.
- how long are you dry camping for? What are your loads? With some effort at conservation, two golf cart batteries (220 - 250AH depending on batteries) can give you 4 nights of camping without going below 50%. They can do longer if you are not using the heater.
- if you need all that capacity (440+ AH), what about solar or a generator to help your batteries out?

Wouldn't it be so much simpler to have two 6v golf cart batteries on the tongue and a inverter generator for recharging?:what::what:
