Under the bed

The bed on my 28bh has much unusable storage under the bed. I can't lift the mattress to get to it, so I am thinking of modifying it. The whole thing that holds the bed is shaped like a fat T, with the legs of the T being 'night tables' on each side of the bed.

I want to saw the tops of the T off and turn each end into a box.

Whatcha think?

Like the ideas you have to make your trailer more comfortable & usable!

Is there any way you could show pictures of the way it is now - someone might have another idea of a mod that could be done.

Tomorrow I am putting drawers in the two 'night tables'. That entails cutting out the front, installing a piano hinge and magnetic catch and turning it into a door. Then I will cut 'cubbies' into the base of the bed and also install drawers in there. I will take pics, I promise.
This will allow access to under the bed without having to remove the mattress and pull the plywood up and out of the way to get to anything under there.
Men designed these things. No woman ever tried to make life harder rather than easier. Keeps us busy trying to undo/redo everything.

Mattress needs Support

To make the space under the mattress useable for my wife I installed a piece of hardwood flooring on a hinge. When you pick up the mattress aided by a small gas cylinder(in our Surveyor SP293) the leg swings into place, slide the leg ahead and it slides along the wood rail on top of the divider and the leg folds down (hinged) with the mattress. This makes the space very useful.
