I don't know what kind of tailgate (s) you all have with these stories of "banging" and "man-handling" them when opening.

I have a 2012 Ram 3/4 ton and opening and closing the tailgate is no problem. Of course, I only open/close mine when hooking/unhooking my FW so maybe there is something I am missing here.

This damper is not an end-all-be-all unit, but it sure makes things a little easier. The older I get, the more I appreciate these modern conveniences.

If anyone just lets their tailgate slam down like the video shows, then I guess they certainly do need one of these kits!

The video shows "Hands Free Opening" at the end - if that is "Hands Free Opening" then what is he using to open the tailgate after the kit is installed?

Check this out for late model GM. This is for a 2012 Chevy.

Thanks dunnc, I was going to order one last year as the online stores showed it fit but DeeZee's showed it only fit 07-10. I didn't want to buy something that's not a 100% fit online as its a pain in the ***** to return.

I had the same issue with the website. It turns out that it was the website that was never updated, not the product. The models for the Ford and GM trucks fit 2011-2012 models just fine.

I saw this when I ordered my truck from the factory, and installed it 1 day after I took delivery of my 2012 F-150 (but not before my 6 year old opened the tailgate the first time and got a bonk on the head!).

I love the unit simply because I can operate the tailgate safely even with my hands full! Have you ever had both arms full of camping gear and tried to open a tailgate? If so, then you'll love this unit!

Hopkins EASYLIFT Tailgate Easylift
This is a torsion bar that is not affected by temperature and does not have to be replaced like gas filled struts.

One of the first mods I did to my Ram1500 when I bought it 2 years ago and I love it to this very day. In fact it's coming off and going on my replacement 3/4 ton Ram when the time comes.
