What type of LP pipe and electrical wiring.

Hi, I am an Australian buyer looking to export a Crusader 295RST to Australia. I am required to modify the camper when it arrives to comply with Aussie specs.
I have a few questions that I hope someone will be kind enough to answer:
What are the fixed LP lines, plastic, copper or steel?
What type and size of wiring is installed for the 110v outlets and what color are the cores?
I know these questions are technical questions but I'm sure someone on this very informative forum has this knowledge.

LP line will most "likely" will be steel for the bulk of the runs.
Copper line will be ran to each device.
Rubber hose at the tanks to the regulator.

I have the 2013 320RLT Crusader.
From what I have noticed the fixed propane lines are of steel, I think it is just black mallable. I don't think the lines are Forged steel or extra heavy.

As for the wiring I really don't know, to new to be ripping apart yet,.

Someone will eventually pipe up with the info you need.

Bad news for me though as I think I will be required to change the lines to copper for Aussie compliance.
Steel is what I had expected though.
I assume that I will be able to access the lines or install copper lines without too much trouble?

Not sure what you me on cores? 110 v ac outlets some are wired with # 14 american wire gauge some are #12 AWG colors are black is hot white neutral green bonded ground
Also what part of Australia are you from. I have several cousins in Western Australia , Perth

Thank you Paul. That is exactly what I needed to know about the wire cores.
I have been told that I would need to replace the wiring but the size and colours that you mentioned are ok for Aus so maybe the wire for isn't rated for 240v which would surprise me.
Do you have any idea how many individual copper wires are in each color wire?
In Aus the wiring for mobile vehicles has to be classed as "flexible" wire which has 20-30 individual copper wires instead of just 7 in each core for fixed house wiring.
I am from the east coast of Australia which is around 4,000 Km's (2,500 mi) from Perth.

The 110v lines are not stranded wires, but 14ga single strand. 14-2 with ground Romex. Black, white & bare.

That would explain why the wire isn't Aussie compliant then.
Looks like I will be required to replace the wiring to every outlet.
From my research on these forums I have noticed that you (Old Coot) have done the occasional modification to your camper and might know how much trouble I am going to have with this rewiring.
Will I be able to access the required areas?

IMO, if you have the underbelly completely open, it will still be a huge undertaking. Altho' I haven't seen any romex stapled, it would require a lot of work on your back under the trailer as well as rewiring all the receptacles for the appliances, converter, etc. Tremendous undertaking. Can it be done? You bet, but it is labor intensive. Probably take at least a week the way I work and that's after the underbelly is exposed. A second person would definitely speed it up when pulling wires and tracing them.

1) send the Specs to Forest River and have them make it Aussie compliant.

2) Do you not have RV manufacturers where you live that are always in compliant?


The unit may be nice, but not if you have to rip out and rebuild a good portion of it.

Thank you Old Coot for the warning.
Fortunately I have a crew of tradesmen and apprentices that work for me so we should get the job done in a reasonable time.

Brother Les I have heard that Forest River will build to Aussie specs but to keep the price reasonable you would need to buy 10 at a time.
You can get a comparable fifth wheel in Australia but they are $100,000+.
No, that isn't a typo.
You can't buy a new travel trailer in Australia for under $40,000 and most are $60K to $90K.
It's hard to believe but unfortunately it is true.
Spending a weeks labour and some wiring doesn't look such a bad idea now, does it?
Your fifth wheels are nicer anyway (but heavier).

Jwedell there is no code for the 12 wiring in Australia apart from clearances from mains voltage as 12 volt isn't a life threatening voltage.

If I look at the bright side, at least I will get to see the inner workings of the underbelly etc so I know where to go when I have problems at a later date.
Notice I said 'when and not 'if'.
I might even be able to challenge Old Coot for the amount of time spent on mod's.
Although I'm sure Old Coot's mods would be more useful.

Just my $.02, for what it is worth.....2 years ago we got a tour of the Salem Hemisphere plant in Goshen and we saw 6 or 8 trailers on the assembly line that for some reason looked "strange". The doors were on the wrong side etc.....after asking we learned that they were being built for export to Australia.
Not sure.....but perhaps they were ordered and built to Aussie specs. It might be worthwhile to ask some questions and get all of your concerns settled before importing.

I did do some research and found that the factories will change layouts to suit Aussie specs but not for one off units.
If only I had the finances available to buy and import 5 or 10 units I could probably make a dollar or two in Australia.
I haven't yet mentioned that it costs around $15,000 for import fees and Aussie tax for one unit.
What I am required to do might sound like a daunting task to most but I have had time to get used to the idea and being in the construction industry probably helps.

The only solid core wires are the electic wires feeding the outlets and appliances. Those arnt on while driving why the heck do they have to be stranded! Is everything 240v over there? How many wires going to a standard outlet?

Yep. Everything is 240 volt.
Anything mobile has to have stranded wire in Australia.
I am an electrician and am very surprised that the US uses solid core wire. We stopped using it here by choice about 15 years ago even though it was cheaper because the solid cores would often break behind power outlets where wires were twisted together and cost too much time finding faults.
