What voltage protection
Hello to everyone,
I purchased a new FW 344QB and I want to install a voltage protection device. I am leaning towards the 50 amp hard wired Surge Guard with a remote head. The progressive Industries has a nice one to. Would like to here what others have out there and your opinions.

Had the PI 30amp hardwired with remote display. Loved it and it saved me a couple times on low voltage situations. The 50 amp hardwired PI unit is first on my mod list when I take possession of the new 5r.

The Progressive Industries unit has a lifetime warranty and is Made in USA. SurgeGuard has a 1 year warranty and is not. You can find many stories of great customer service from PI in this forum.
The PI remote display has a "bypass" switch on it which allows you to bypass the unit if it is giving a false fail.

Just installed the PI EMS-HW50C in our new 8289WS today. It fits in the compartment behind the Power Panel with no problem.
Straight forward installation, and I placed the remote right above the Power Panel, where I can check it from outside the door on initial connection.
Also removed the OEM Converter (that was a trick, without removing the Furnace) and replaced it with a PD-9260 with remote pendant. The Pendant fits inside the Power Panel on top of the DC Fuses with no problem.
Here is a link to the best price that I could find at the time for the PI Surge Protector.

Well thanks everyone looks like I am going to get the PI instead. I was not sure what to get the PI would work better for me for where I want to put it. I did not have one in my first trailer but I want one in this FW going camping in it Easter weekend try to get it all setup and ready.

Why just protection instead of protection & regulation? I'd rather spend a little more and get a unit that actually keeps the power flowing - at the correct level - instead of just shut it off.

He's speaking about using an auto-transformer that will raise the voltage when it's low instead of just shutting off the power. Search for Frank's Voltage Booster for instance.

For the number of times I would need to boost the voltage, I cannot justify the cost of the AutoTransformers. For a 50A they are pretty pricey.
I did look at them, but opted for the Surge Protector and a whole lot of other goodies.

RodeoGeorge you don't by chance have any photos of where you installed your surge protector. I will be installing same one on 8289ws also.

Ahhh. Why didn't you say so. What happens when the power cuts off. I'd rather just have a generator.

Interesting point. When you're talking 50-amp, the generator isn't that much more (still not 100 amp) and you can use it boondocking as well.

I took a ton of pictures, and I'll be uploading them to Albums as I progress with various mods.
I plan on uploading some tonight, and will post under 8289WS - MODS with a detail write up and link to the pictures.

I ordered the PI EMS-HW50C and a set of JT strong arms for the FW yesterday can not wait to install them both. It is nice to hear what others feel about products and how they have installed them. I had a power problem at a campground 2 years ago that resulted in a melted plug end at the pedestal. Told the campground they sent someone to check the pedestal he found nothing wrong. I am not a electician but I felt there was low voltage in our area of the grounds. After that I started to look into voltage protection but do to we were looking into a new trailer wanted to wait since I new we were upgrading to a FW. EMEMS-HW50CS-HW50C

The install pics are nice when I do mine I will take a few pics. My panel and converter are located in the bunkroom under a set of drawers. I have already pulled the drawers out looks like plenty of room to do the work, need to decide where to put the display.
